摘要： Substantially dry, self-hardening, thermally activated refractory compositions, suitable for use to produce linings for furnaces or metallurgical vessels such as ladles, tundishes or launders, comprise particulate refractory material, an inorganic binder having associated therewith chemically or physically bound water such as sodium metasilicate pentahydrate or tribasic sodium phosphate dodecahydrate, and an element or compound, such as aluminium, which will react exothermically with the inorganic binder. The compositions may also contain an inhibitor such as a mineral oil or a vegetable oil to inhibit premature exothermic reaction.

摘要： A container protective against high temperature of restricted duration is formed of a mixture of plaster of paris containing incombustible reinforcing filler, such as glass fibres, and/or insulating filler, such as glass spheres; and a particulate inorganic hydrate, such as magnesium sulphate, which may have a water-insoluble coating. It may also contain an infrared opacifier, such as chromium oxide. The container cover is preferably stepped, to eliminate a direct radiation path between the cover and the container; and the stepped seat or the stepped edge of the cover may be covered with a fusible incombustible material, such as a glass cloth of suitable melting point, to seal the joint between cover and container in the existence of high temperature. The wall structure may be graded, having higher melting filler and reinforcement at the exposed face, and lower melting filler at the interior portions.

Aluminum sulphate materials and potassium sulphate materials are combined to form aluminum potassium sulphate which is then dehydrated to remove the water of hydration. The resultant dehydrated sulphate expands greatly to provide an insulative material which is of lightweight and inorganic.

A groove-shaped cavity appearing between the adjacent lining edges facing one another is filled with a caulking material, so that the fire resistance afforded by the composition and the panels is further enhanced.

摘要： Copending disclosure teaches the addition of particulate hydrated inorganic compound, such as hydrated magnesium sulphate, to plaster of paris formulation so that, when plaster has set, particles of hydrate will be dispersed in solid plaster. Such plaster will survive high ambient temperatures longer than conventional plaster without hydrate inclusions, because ablation of water of hydration will carry away entering heat. This patent discloses coating the particles of water-soluble hydrate with a water-insoluble protecting layer, such as paraffin wax, prior to their inclusion in the plaster formulation, to prevent any solution of the hydrate in the water used in preparing plaster mix.
