    • The transporting apparatus has a guide which forms a closed loop and in which transporting members circulate. The transporting members are driven at the beginning and end of the effective conveying zone by in each case an independently controllable drive mechanism. Between successive transporting members there are in each case spring elements, which are designed exclusively for the transfer of compressive force. The drive means of the drive mechanisms driving the transporting members are preceded by controlled blockers, by which the transporting members are prevented from being taken along by the drive. As a result it is ensured that each transporting member seizes a printing product, even if there are gaps in the printing products as they are fed to the transporting members, the printing products preferably being fed in imbricated formation. At the delivery point, the delivery of printing products may also be delayed by one or more cycles without stopping the drive. The spring elements allow a differing number of transporting members to be located between the drive mechanisms.

    • Arrangements are described which allow a printing stock web to be reliably drawn through a drier. A draw-in member which grasps the tip of a printing stock web has a power transmission, e.g. a roller chain, which runs in a guide. Plates or blowing boxes which are movable vertically to the draw-in plane of the printing stock web and form closures in the guide by lateral projections of their side walls are provided to prevent dirt from penetrating into this guide. Rollers or cylinders are provided for additional correction of a lateral displacement of the printing stock web while the web is drawn in by the draw-in member. A friction-locking engagement, i.e., particularly rolling friction or adhesive friction, causes these rollers or cylinders either to exert a transverse traction on the printing stock web themselves or, in order to compensate for the lateral displacement of the printing stock web, secure the printing stock web in the correct position due to a transverse traction produced by an oppositely directed displacement of the guide.

    • In a signature-stacking apparatus, a conveyor chain holding a row of signatures travels along a conveyance path. A first signature release section and a second signature release section are provided in the conveyance path. During travel from the first signature release section to the second signature release section, the conveyor chain is twisted by 180 degrees about the direction of travel and makes a 180-degree turn about an axis parallel to a connection pin of the conveyor chain. Signatures released from the first and second signature release sections are conveyed to first and second signature delivery sections disposed on opposite sides of a stacking section by first and second conveyor mechanisms while their speed of conveyance is being adjusted. A predetermined number of signatures are delivered, while being led by their creases, into the stacking section from the first and second signature delivery sections alternately.

    • A machine wherein stuffers are inserted between the panels of folded sheets, while the sheets are confined in receptacles advancing along an endless path, has a rotor which defines a portion of the path and supports several sets of sheet opening elements including swords which penetrate between the panels of folded sheets in adjacent receptacles to open up the sheets preparatory to admission of stuffers between the panels. The swords are mounted on a support which is adjustably secured to the rotor so that all of the swords are adjusted relative to the adjacent receptacles in response to proper adjustment of a single sword. This simplifies the change of setup when the machine is to be converted from treatment of folded sheets having relatively thick panels to treatment of folded sheets with thinner panels or vice versa.
