Use is made of a rotary system with compartments which run along a closed circular rotary path and are oriented as a tangent or secant to the rotary path (U). This makes it possible for the printed products and the articles to be fed in the direction of rotation, as a result of which the forces acting on the products can be reduced. There are also advantages relating to format adaptation, since the opening angle of the product upon adjustment of the compartment base does not change to such a pronounced extent as is the case with radially oriented compartments.

In order to also stabilize the product in the open state of the gripper, a support element is provided, which moves between the two product parts before the gripper opens and rests on one of the product parts. If the orientations of the support elements and the grippers are selected in a suitable fashion, this will suffice in order to position the product and keep it open such that the flat object can be inserted and the gripper can then be closed again, while clamping the product with the flat object into position. Optionally, further support elements are present, which additionally support the product from the outside, such as the folded edge.

摘要： A multiplicity of similar pockets open at their top and each serving for the reception of a printed product are attached in a closely spaced or uninterrupted row at endless revolving drive elements which move in a direction transversely to the direction of extent of the open pockets. These pockets successively travel to infeed stations for the printed products and the inserts. Each pocket is equipped with a mechanism for opening the printed product located therein. To reduce to a minimum the number of movable components in each pocket and to attain a faultless or proper alignment of the printed products with the inserts and which are collated together for forming a final product, each pocket is provided with an entrainment element intended for the reception of a printed product. This entrainment element is controllably displaceable, transverse to the direction of revolving motion of the pockets, between a first terminal position and a second terminal position. In each pocket there is provided an opening element, such as an opening wedge, which is stationary in relation to the associated pocket. This opening wedge opens the printed product which is entrained by the entrainment element during the course of displacement of the entrainment element from its first terminal position into its second terminal position.

摘要： A straight-line insert machine for inserting materials into a newspaper jacket is disclosed. The jacket is positioned in a moving pocket which is hinged but closed at the bottom such that when the pocket opens, as vacuum is applied to the walls of the pockets, the jacket opens. Vacuum flanges moving at the same linear speed as the pockets mate with vacuum stems attached to the pockets for a predetermined time and apply vacuum to the walls of the pocket so that the front and rear portions of the newspaper jacket are held against the fixed and movable walls, respectively, as the pocket opens. The pockets and vacuum system are synchronously driven. Camming action is used to open and close the pockets. Insert hoppers place insert materials into the open jackets. Because the machine is modular, additional insert hoppers and pockets can be added. A gripper-conveyor system, which is also synchronously driven with the pockets and vacuum system, picks up the newspaper with inserts from the top of a closed pocket and delivers the newspaper with inserts to a drop-off point such as a tray or a stacker.

A production optimization parameter determines whether a defined production order is to be maintained for the delivery routes or whether the production order of the delivery routes can be altered. If the production order can be altered, the production sequences of a plurality of delivery routes for the production of production collections of the same collection type are combined to a cohesive production sequence and the occupancy of the feeders is determined for the production order with combined production sequences.

The process starts by inserting a folded printed product into the main product. The first inserted product could have been open when inserted or opened after it was inserted. Then another printed product is inserted into the main product such that it lies adjacent to the first product that was inserted. The first product that was inserted into the main product can then be opened to permit additional printed products to be inserted into it.
