    • The invention relates to a large-volume packing container for bitumen, the container being made of flexible material and having approximately a truncated pyramid-like basic shape prior to filling, wherein the container is closed at the top by a cover wall (6) extending parallel to the bottom surface and having a preferably central filling opening (10). In order to achieve self-stabilization during filling, or stability during storage, in the temperature range from 100° to 110° C. the woven fabric forming the walls (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) has a stretching capacity of 10-25%, preferably 15-20%, in the direction of the warp and weft, wherein stabilizing means (14), such as pleats, seams, strips or the like are drawn or sewn into the lower region of the fabric panels forming the lateral walls (1, 2, 3, 4) in order to stabilize the woven fabric to forces occurring obliquely to the warp and weft.

    • A method for filling a flexible container with a flowable material is provided, including the steps of filling the flexible container, suspending the flexible container, transferring the weight of the flexible container from being suspended to being supported by a support surface, and applying a hoop force to the flexible container to substantially maintain a configuration of the flexible container. The flexible container can be a bag-type container for containing flowable material such as chemicals, food products, agricultural products, and plastic pellets. As the container is lowered from the suspended position to a bottom-supported position, the hoop force is applied around the perimeter as the perimeter changes during transfer of the flexible container from being suspend to being bottom-supported. The hoop force can be applied by stretch wrap. Alternatively, the first flexible container can be lowered into a second flexible container. The second flexible container can be formed from a heat shrinkable material and the second flexible container can be shrunk at the perimeter as the perimeter changes. Alternatively, the second flexible container can be a stretchable bag. A stretched portion of the stretchable bag can be released substantially at the perimeter to generate the hoop force.

    • A collapsible container defined by a continuous rigid structure and an integrated internal truss system. The continuous rigid structure is preferably four-sided such that it defines four continuous surfaces of a cube. The continuous rigid structure is collapsible due to at least one scoring line defined on at least one surface thereof. The internal truss system includes at least one inelastic member that is threaded through the surfaces of the continuous rigid structure to form a symmetrical and unitary support. A liner may be integrally affixed to each of the four sides and additionally provides a fifth side that forms the bottom of the container. A protective cover may be secured to the exterior of the continuous rigid structure for protecting the contained materials against the elements. The cover can be selectively sealed for rendering the container of the present invention substantially impervious to the elements.
