    • There is provided a container with an opening formed by cutting a panel from the container body. A pull feature is joined to the panel and the panel is reattached to the container to cover the opening. The panel is reattached with a sealed, frangible interface so that pulling the pull feature of the panel removes the panel from the container to provide access to the contents within the container through the opening. The pull feature may be a pull tab joined to an outer surface of the panel or may be a pull tab and a ring. To facilitate the formation of the sealed, frangible interface, the ring may be positioned between an outer edge of the panel and an inner edge of the container or may be positioned to overhang the outer edge of the panel and to contact the container proximate the opening. The container may also include a second opening at an opposite end of the container that includes a closure sealed to the container.

    • Improved easy opening means for containers. Especially adapted to those used for liquids, including carbonated beverages, and permitting drinking from the container or pouring out contents. An important feature is attachment of closure to container after opening to avoid litter. One closure design has lift tab attached to the closure for easy opening, and with closure sealed by either a frangible adhesive sealant or by membrane sealing means. Lift tab initiates rupture of sealant, and then both lift tab and closure are pushed below container top with means to hold tab below opening so there is no interference when drinking from the can. Another closure has a small end for initial pressure release and starting rupture of sealing means, and then whole closure hinges inwardly. Still another means comprises a slide gate with frangible membrane for sealing and for very easy opening. Slide gate is non-detachable and has sharp points for easier rupture of membrane during opening. Optionally a pressure release button is provided to release internal pressure before pulling the slide gate. An improved forming method for making the opening smaller than the closure where the closure is cut from the ductile metal top material. Partial use of score lines is included. Container top may be ductile metal including aluminum or steel, or of plastic for various forms of the invention. Primary objectives are the elimination of a separate closure device that would cause litter, closure easier to open than heretofore, low cost, and no danger of a piece coming loose inside container.

    • A closure, set within an aperture of a container end wall, for gas tight containment of dissociating gasses that emit from carbonated beverage, whereby the container, such as a beverage container, becomes pressurized. The closure device, manufactured of a suitable plastic material, set within an aperture in a container end wall, includes a rim seal with an annular locking recess surrounding the aperture in the container end wall, providing a liquid and gas-tight seal. The rim seal includes a depending tapered inner wall, protruding into the container interior, with the larger diameter open to the container interior. Additionally, the rim seal is fitted with a narrow strip hinge on a lower aspect, and locking members located on an upper aspect. A sealing panel, having a small diameter gas vent hole, is set within the rim seal, connected by the narrow strip hinge. This panel is formed with a tapered outer depending wall with a like taper to the rim seal, such that the tapers cooperate in sealing engagement. Pressure within the container acts to compress the underside of the sealing panel and more tightly engage the tapers, providing a gas-tight seal. A tab member is connected to the sealing panel on an upper aspect. Lifting the tab separates the sealing relationship with the gas vent hole, exhausting the pressurized gas under the tab cover, resulting in dry venting. The tab also acts as a lever, to rotate the sealing panel from a horizontal sealing position within the rim seal, to an open position, secured within the container interior, thereby providing a pour opening. Returning the sealing panel to an original position within the rim seal, and repositioning the tab to a sealing relationship with the gas vent hole, reseals the container, providing a gas tight seal.
