    • A device for washing the lens of a headlamp, in particular for a motor vehicle, includes a reservoir for washing liquid, a spray nozzle directed towards the lens, a pump disposed between the reservoir and the spray nozzle, and a control means for the pump to cause the washing liquid to be drawn from the reservoir and be delivered to the spray nozzle, thereby to create a jet of liquid impacting on the lens. The outlet orifice of the spray nozzle is shaped to deliver a substantially horizontal, lamellar jet of liquid, covering approximately the entire width of the lens. The pump and its control means are designed to vary the pressure of the liquid at the inlet of the spray nozzle in such a manner that the jet, by the combination of its initial velocity which varies and the force of gravity, executes a sweeping movement over the lens in the direction of its height.

    • An electric wiper motor drives a wiper and has first and second wiper motor terminals. The wiper wipes the front of a vehicle headlight, a vehicle windshield or the like. A switch device includes a switch contact electrically connected to the first wiper motor terminal, a work contact and a rest contact, and a rotating device mechanically coupled to and driven by the wiper motor and operative for causing the switch contact to alternately come into electrical engagement with the work contact and with the rest contact. A source of electrical energy has first and second source terminals. The first and second wiper motor terminals are connected to the first and second source terminals, respectively, to establish a principal motor current path for the flow of wiper motor drive current. The principal motor current path can be closed and interrupted. An electric pump motor drives a pump which discharges a washing fluid onto the surface to be washed, and has first and second pump motor terminals. The first source terminal is electrically connected to the work contact for establishing an auxiliary current path for the flow of motor drive current when the switch contact is in electrical engagement with the work contact. The first pump motor terminal is electrically connected to the rest contact and the second pump motor terminal to the second source terminal, for establishing a braking current path for the flow of wiper motor braking current through the pump motor when the switch contact is in electrical engagement with the rest contact and the principal motor current path is in the interrupted condition.

    • A wiping and washing system for a vehicle windshield and for the vehicle headlamps include, a wiper motor connected to drive wipers for each headlamp and a fluid washing system which includes a container connected to a pump through a control valve which is electrically operated for supplying the washing fluid selectively to nozzles directed to the windshield and to the headlamps. The system is controlled through an electrical circuit connected to the ignition system of the vehicle which includes a light switch for the vehicle headlamps and a relay and pulse generator operated by a wash fluid switch which is depressed temporarily to cause the relay and pulse generator to actuate the washing pump and the wiper motor for the headlamps. The valve has a non-operating setting in which the fluid is circulated through the valve from the pump to the windshield washing nozzles and it also includes an operating setting in which the liquid is circulated from the pump through the valve to the headlamp washing liquid nozzles. The light circuit is connected to the headlamp wiper motor so that the motor is switched on only when the lights are switched on.
