    • An improved self-propelled mobile track vehicle (MTV) capable of traveling by road at normal highway speeds and traveling by rail after conversion at a narrow railroad crossing by producing a device for rotating the vehicle 90 degrees. The vehicle is powered by a diesel engine driving through a power shift transmission to the roadway and railway axles. A significant advantage over other types of road/rail vehicles is that 100 percent of the vehicle's weight is carried on the rail wheels, which are powered and braked, thereby allowing higher and safer rail speeds. One way to convert the vehicle from roadway travel to railway travel is to maneuver it into a position parallel to the track at a road crossing. The rail axles are then extended and road axles retracted. In addition, a turntable mounted at the vehicle's center of gravity also allows the vehicle to convert at a narrow road crossing. While at railway/roadway crossing the unit raises and rotates 90 to align with the desired roadway or railway. The vehicle can assist in starting a train by extending the powered road axle so that the inner rubber tires contact the rail and the high traction of rubber on rail assists in increasing starting traction of the vehicle thus allowing the vehicle to assist in starting a train.

    • A rail cum road vehicle(RCRV) running on rail tracks or on plain roads, includes a gas powered hybrid engine coach linked to and pulling one or several passenger coaches or goods vehicles, all of which in common are fitted with pneumatic rubber wheels, steel wheels, air suspension system with hanger brackets, air brakes and couplers. The air suspension system will lift the axles of the rubber wheels for rail travel, and it will lift the steel wheels to nm on plain roads. Its regenerative braking system produces electricity to run the motor of an air compressor unit or the vehicle itself. The engine power is transmitted to the steel wheels and the rubber wheels via crown/differential boxes and sprockets and chains. All of the RCRV are fitted with ‘advanced light weight rail tracks brakes’ and ‘corrugated concrete track to engage with the corrugated tread rubber wheels’ for instant braking. The circular chassis bogie at rear end helps the RCRV on tracks and on road comfortably negotiate. The ballast-less economy rail track with lesser numbers of light weight sleepers is bolted to the ground for comfortable journey with less noise.

    • A vehicle for operation on both road and railroad track is provided with a wheeled chassis comprising a steered front wheel axle and a rear wheel axle, both with road or rubber tire wheels. A front and a rear wheel axle are provided with rail wheels, the rear rail wheel axle being pivotable around a vertical axis relative to the wheel chassis. The rail wheel axles are vertically displaceable to be moved into engagement with the railroad track during the lifting of adjacent rubber tire wheels out of engagement with the ground. The rear rail wheel axle is located behind the rear wheel axle for road or rubber tire wheels of the vehicle and is turnable at least 180.degree. around the vertical axis. Preferably two parallel rear rail wheel axles are mounted on a bogie, which is turnable or rotatory relative to the wheeled chassis. The bogie also incorporates a drive unit comprising a motor and a gear and is by means of a link system including a hydraulic cylinder-piston unit permanently secured to the rear part of the vehicle.

    • A tamper apparatus configured for being transportable upon a road is provided. A chassis is configured for supporting the tamper apparatus. A retractable turntable unit is connected to the chassis. The turntable unit has a generally quadrilateral configuration with side walls, and is rotatably attached at substantially a center of mass of the tamper apparatus. A tamping unit is connected to the chassis and configured for performing packing of a ballast under railroad ties for correcting cross and longitudinal levels of a pair of rails of a railroad track. A buggy lift assembly is removably attached to the chassis and configured for providing track alignment of the rails. At least one set of retractable rail wheels is connected to the chassis such that the chassis is towable by an automobile.
