    • The present invented mechanism comprises more than two (legs) with phase difference (like polygon-shape, ellipse-shape, and etc) between their rotation angles to produce pre-loading for improved adhesion. Two rigid plates covered with adhesives are attached to each phase difference wheel. Each plate connects to the wheels via a hinge embodying a torsional spring, which forces the plate back to its original position after each contact with surface. The phase difference wheels are made of elastic materials for application of controlled pre-loads at contact surfaces during locomotion. The difference between height and width of each wheel as well as the elastic properties of the materials determine the pre-load pressure applied during locomotion. The pre-load pressure is not strongly dependent on the orientation of locomotion. This enables locomotion in vertical, inclined and even upside-down orientation and also in the non-gravity environment.

    • Circular support belts having internal, wound inextensible filaments encased in elastomer retain a plurality of circumferentially disposed track shoes which are attached to these support belts through an elastomeric couple in which shaped keepers are employed to compressively load the elastomer at the couple to secure the track shoes to the internal inextensible filaments of the support belts. A dense elastomer insulated joint is formed wherein direct physical contact by the track shoes and/or the keepers with these filaments is avoided and a resulting couple is obtained which prevents slipping movement between the track shoes and the filaments. The resulting track belt system can be employed about the periphery of pneumatic tire carcasses to increase traction, protect the carcass, etc.

    • A wheel and brake system adapted for use with a vehicle for transportation comprising: a tread having a plurality of elements circumferentially spaced around the wheel to define a substantially circular outer edge of the tread, the elements capable of flexing inwardly upon contact with a protruding surface to expose a load bearing surface to support a load of the vehicle; a brake; and a handle connected to the brake and adapted for moving of the vehicle in a pulling direction and engaging brake when a pulling force is applied in the pulling direction, the brake when engaged, adapted to permit rotation of the wheel in the pulling direction and to impede rotation of the wheel in an opposite direction. In one embodiment, the brake system comprises two braking elements and a brake actuating element to controllably engage one braking element to impede rotation thereof, the one braking element engaging another braking element to impede rotation of the wheel.
