摘要： According to one embodiment, a thermal head is provided opposite to a platen roller. A ribbon transport unit transports an ink ribbon between the thermal head and the platen roller. A transport unit transports a sheet carrying a label between the thermal head and the platen roller. A clamping mechanism clamps the ink ribbon, a printing area of the label and the sheet in the thermal head and the platen roller. An acquisition unit acquires first print data to be printed on a first label and second print data to be printed on a second label. A non-printing area specifying unit specifies a non-printing area on the sheet, based on the first print data and the second print data. The control unit separates the ink ribbon and the sheet when it is transported between the thermal head and the platen roller, and stops the transport of the ink ribbon.

摘要： A ribbon cassette of which the type of ink ribbon accommodated in the ribbon cassette may be identified by detection switches arranged on the carriage of a thermal transfer printer, without using a plurality of types of ribbon cassette case which are different in shape. A ribbon cassette in which a simple construction is used to prevent sticking to each other of the ink ribbon and the guide roller immediately after printing. A ribbon cassette by which a stain on the recording sheet due to contact between the sheet and the ink ribbon at the time of printing operation may be prevented and the stability of running of the ink ribbon is improved. A thermal transfer printer in which: the stability of running of the ink ribbon may be improved; both hot peeling printing and cold peeling printing are possible in an excellent condition; and the consumption of the, ink ribbon may be reduced.

摘要： A printing apparatus comprises an input device for entering a plurality of sets of data, each set including title information and character information associated with the title information. A memory stores a plurality of the sets of data entered by the input device and a printer is responsive to sets of data read from the memory to print any one of those sets of data either fully or partially. A selection device selectively causes the printer to print any one of the sets of data either fully or partially. The printing apparatus may also include a selector for selecting one of a first printing mode and a second printing mode. In the first printing mode, when selected, the printer is caused to print both the title information and the character information which may comprise text information. In the second mode, the text information is printed without the title information.

The printer further includes a rotatable gear for winding print tape, a toothed rack that can move toward and away from the winding gear, and a driving plate for reciprocating the rack in association with the rotation of the carriage. When characters are to be printed, the carriage is rotated to the platen, and the teeth of the rack are brought into mesh with the winding gear. When no characters are printed, the carriage is angularly moved away from the platen, and the teeth of the rack are disengaged from the winding gear.

摘要： The present invention is an inked ribbon advancement mechanism which is used in combination with a printer having a movable print head. The printer includes a frame and a print head mechanically coupled to the frame so that it travels laterally along the front of the frame. The inked ribbon advancement mechanism includes an apparatus for continuously advancing an increment of inked ribbon in response to the position of the print head. The apparatus includes a device for positioning the increment of inked ribbon adjacent to the print head and a slidable member which is slidably coupled to the print head in parallel juxtaposition so that the slidable member can move differentially in response to the print head. The apparatus also includes a cam for continuously displacing the slidable member in response to the movement of the print head. The print head is mechanically coupled to a plate member to which a pair of ribbon spools are rotatably coupled so that the print head and the increment of inked ribbon from the ribbon spools travel together.
