摘要： A system is disclosed for sealing a manufacturer's joint and/or the ends of a customized box. The system includes at least a first arm spaced apart from a second arm. The arms are arranged so that an end flap of a box blank can be inserted between the arms to align the box blank relative to the arms and secure and maintain at least two side panels of the box blank in an adjacent position to form a manufacturer's joint. Methods for forming and sealing a manufacturer's joint and/or the ends of a customized box are also disclosed. Such methods, are designed to, for example, reliably form, close, and seal the manufacturer's joint and/or the ends of a customized box in a simplified manner.

[Also in Division B8] In a machine for erecting cardboard boxes, blanks B are fed from a hopper H by means of a reciprocating member P with a lug 92, which removes the bottom blank, to feed rollers R which are spring-loaded together to carry the blank into a position where it is acted upon by a former F after having been stopped by a member 154. A plunger 170 presses the blank between sleeves 158 on crimping springs 141, 147, 157 and bevelled guide bars 134. Adhesive tape T is fed to reciprocating corner staying elements 222 by rollers 184, 186 (Fig. 9), and is cut to the required length by knives 189, 226. The corner staying elements are operated by the mechanism shown in Fig. 7, which comprises a bar 238 which is reciprocated by the action of cam follower 234 on cam surface 231 (Fig. 7), of the main drive shaft M, the staying elements in turn being operated by bell-cranks 249, 249a. After assembly the stayed box is allowed to drop through the crimping springs and fall on to a removal conveyer (not shown). Staying elements 222 may be provided with holes for internal heaters for the softening of thermoplastic adhesive. The machine is adjustable for boxes of different lengths and widths.
