    • A method of twin-sheet vacuum forming plastic articles having the steps of clamping two parallel sheets of thermoplastic synthetic resin in a vertical orientation to a clamping tray and blowing air between the parallel sheets thereby creating a hollow cavity between the two parallel sheets. The two parallel sheets are then heated to molding temperature between two vertically oriented heaters. The two parallel sheets are disposed between opposing mold cavities of a vertically oriented split mold wherein the mold cavities have a contour conforming the configuration of the desired article. A negative pressure is applied to suction holes provided in the mold cavities which draw the two parallel sheets against each opposing mold cavity. The split mold is then clamped together to form a pinch off around the perimeter of the hollow cavity thereby forming a molded hollow part still disposed within the clamping tray. Simultaneously, a blow pin inserted into the hollow cavity injects compressed air further presses the heated sheets against the mold cavities. The molded hollow part is allowed to cool to a set point and the vertically oriented split mold is opened. The clamping tray is withdrawn from the split mold and shuttled away from the mold cavities where the molded hollow part is cut away from the clamping tray, still in a vertical position.

    • A series of driven rolls for separating blow-molded products from segments of flash material in a string of products formed in a synthetic resin continuous molding machine. A first pair of rolls receives a string of products joined by flashes as the products are removed from the dies of a blow-molding apparatus. At least one of the rolls in the first pair of rolls is driven at a first rotational speed. An intermediate pair of rolls receives the string of products and flashes from the first pair of rolls, and the intermediate rolls are driven at a speed faster than the first rotational speed to stretch the string of products and thereby separate the flashing segments from the products. A pair of last rolls is spaced by an interval from the pair of intermediate rolls. The interval between the intermediate rolls and the last rolls is adjusted such that the products and the flashes can be sorted by length. The longer of the products and flashes are advanced through the pair of last rolls, whereas the shorter of the products and flashes drop through the interval between the rolls, thereby sorting the blow-molded products from the flash segments. Preferably, the distance between the pairs of rolls is adjustable to accommodate strings of products and flash segments of various configurations. Additionally, the last rolls are preferably driven at a speed faster than the intermediate pair of rolls to facilitate cutting and to quicken the advancement of material by the last rolls.

    • Blow molding apparatus for manufacturing containers, the apparatus having a blow station, a parison forming station to one side of the blow molding station, a container trim station at the other side of the blow molding station and a multiple station mold carrying slide for shuttle movement between a first position below the parison forming and blow molding stations and a second position below the blow molding and trim stations. The shuttling movement of the slide takes place between a pair of movable platens that are capable of opening and closing the molds. Improved structure in the apparatus insures that the blow heads will not separate from the molds during blowing, provides for trimming of the containers at the trim stations and for deposit of trimmed containers in upright positions on a conveyor.
