    • Apparatus for continuously manufacturing chip-and fiber-board webs having uniform thickness across their width in a press comprising a centrally disposed press cylinder journalled to rotate in bearings in uprights and at least one pressure roller disposed adjacent to periphery of the press cylinder. An endless steel band which carries the material for forming the web and which is subjected to tensile stress, is guided around the press cylinder and through the nip defined between the press cylinder and the pressure roller. The material is then pressed between the endless steel band and the surface of the press cylinder. The pressure roller is journalled for rotation in bearing bodies at each of its ends, with the bearing bodies being connected to piston and cylinder arrangements. When the press is in its loaded state, the bearing body at one end of the pressure roller is displaced by the application of a preselected pressure towards the axis of rotation of the press cylinder. The spacing between the external surface of the press cylinder and that of the pressure roller is measured at this end of the roller. On the basis of the distance measured at this end, the same spacing is set at the other end of the pressure roller by adjusting the bearing body at that end. By input to a microprocessor, it is possible to preselect specific gap sizes at the pressure rollers to produce a specific thickness of board, with the pressure rollers then being held exactly parallel.

    • A continuously operable chipboard press has a heatable pressing drum enclosed over a part of its periphery by a first endless steel pressing belt which is guided around direction-changing rolls, thereby forming a pressing section for a chip cake. In order to increase the surface pressure applied by the endless pressing belt, a second endless steel pressing belt is guided around separate direction-changing rolls within a space between the pressing section and a return pass of the first endless pressing belt. The second endless steel pressing belt acts on the outer face of the first pressing belt for a part of the pressing section.

    • An apparatus for the continuous manufacture of an endless strip of thin chipboard includes means for depositing wood chips mixed with a bonding agent onto a horizontally-disposed section of a continuously revolving pretensioned conveyor belt. This apparatus is further provided with a heated compression drum adjacent the discharge end of the conveyor belt. An endless steel belt partially encircles the compression drum surface to provide a compression gap between the steel belt and the drum surface. The improvement comprises a first deflector roller mounted adjacent the point where the chips enter the gap; a second deflector roller beneath said depositing means; and the conveyor belt being endless, made from textile material and trained around the first and second deflector rollers to convey the chips to the gap.

    • Apparatus for the continuous production of boards such as chipboards, fibreboards and the like which includes an endless steel band guided on guiding and feeding rollers so as to convey board material to where it is compressed between the band and a rotatable pressing drum. In order to accurately control the temperature across the width of the drum and steel band, with a consequent maintenance of uniform thickness across the width of the board produced, a plurality of separate heat transfer elements are positioned adjacent the steel band and within the pressing drum. These heat transfer elements are spaced from one another in the direction of the width of the band and drum so as to accommodate a separate heating or cooling of the various sections across the width of the band and drum. Automatic thickness control means in the form of thickness detectors arranged across the width of the finished board and a control device for controlling the individual heat transfer elements in response to the detected thickness variations are also provided.
