    • A honing mandrel having an elongated body with a passageway extending along the length thereof including at least one open sided portion, the mandrel including an abrasive assembly positioned for radial movement in the open sided passageway portion having a radial outer surface formed of an abrasive material and a radial inner portion including spaced surfaces acutely angularly oriented relative to the axis of the mandrel body, cooperatively engageable surfaces on the abrasive assembly and on the body to prevent relative axial movement but not relative radial movement therebetween, and an operator member positioned in the passageway for axial movement therein, the operator member having surface portions thereon acutely angularly oriented relative to the axis of the mandrel body and positioned to make surface-to-surface slidable engagement with respective ones of the inner surfaces on the abrasive assembly whereby axial movements of the operator member in one direction relative to the abrasive assembly will produce radial movement of the abrasive assembly in an outward radial direction, the abrasive assembly and the operator member having adjacent side surfaces with other engaged portions including cooperatively engageable surfaces formed thereon which produce radial movement of the abrasive assembly in an inward direction when the operator member is moved in an axial direction opposite from the axial direction that produced the radial outward movement of the abrasive assembly.

    • An internal lapping tool comprises a steel mandrel having a cast iron generally cylindrical head welded on the front and thereof. The head is formed with two spaced arcuate lapping faces opposite a longitudinal slot which carries a cast iron insert providing a third arcuate lapping face. A wedge member slideably mounted for longitudinal movement in the mandrel provides for moving the insert radially. The three arcuate lapping faces on the rotating head provide a three point contact on the wall of a hole being lapped, thereby effectively producing a round mating form as desired for lapping. Futhermore, as the arcuate faces wear and the hole enlarges during the lapping operation, the arcuate lapping faces are kept snugly at all times against the cylindrical wall of the hole being lapped by the longitudinal positive feed of the wedge member.

    • A precision hone is set forth particularly for use in the honing of relatively small diameter bores, wherein a main body telescopingly receives therein a sleeve insert secured at its upper end to a tension release spring. A plurality of diametrically opposed and aligned tension pins are directed through the sleeve insert and imposed upon an upper surface of a wedge holder that rotatably receives within a securement boss a bifurcated latch plate integrally secured to a depth wedge that is reciprocatably mounted by means of rotation of a micrometer thimble rotatably secured to the wedge holder and the micrometer sleeve to reciprocate the depth wedge and radially adjust a honing stone relative to an associated mandrel. Application of force to a forward surface of the tension release spring biases the depth wedge rearwardly by its securement to the depth wedge holder to thereby release radial force upon the honing stone and enable quick removal of a workpiece receiving the honing stone when the hone assembly is rotatably mounted to a rotating mandrel.
