摘要： A completely automated apparatus for verifying the identity and geometry of drill bits, re-sharpening the cutting tip of a drill bit and re-positioning a locating ring upon the shank portion of the drill bit subsequent to the re-sharpening of the cutting tip thereof. The apparatus comprises a housing having a pair of cassette trays, a pair of grinding assemblies, a pair of optical assemblies, a pair of primary cleaning assemblies, a pair of secondary cleaning assemblies, a pair of inversion assemblies, a pair of workhead assemblies, a bumping assembly, and a loader assembly attached thereto. The workhead and loader assemblies are used to transport drill bits between the cassette trays and other assemblies in a selected sequence which is controlled and coordinated by a programmable control device. The control device is electrically interfaced to each of the assemblies and allows the cutting tip re-sharpening and locating ring re-positioning processes to be conducted simultaneously on at least two drill bits.

摘要： A grinding machine for grinding a tip of a drill bit including a grindstone rotatably provided on a base; a drill bit holder provided on one side of the grindstone, the drill bit holder being pivotable about an axis parallel to the rotating axis of the grindstone and holding the drill bit in an inclined position at a predetermined angle relative to the grinding surface of the grindstone; and a drill bit feeder which moves the drill bit toward the grindstone so that the tip of the drill bit is brought into contact with the grinding surface and ground by the grindstone. If the drill bit holder is pivoted when the tip of the drill bit is brought into contact with the rotating grindstone, the drill bit held by a drill bit presser mounted on the drill bit holder is turned about its own axis so that the tip is ground into substantially a cone shape with a desirable rake angle and rake angle surface.

摘要： A hand held grinding device for sharpening drill bits comprises a pair of bearing members which rotatably support a grinding wheel fast on a shaft. Portion of the shaft is engagable with the chuck of a drill. A guide plate with grooves for various size ranges of drill bits is hingedly connected to the bearing members by a plastics hinge. The grooves direct the drill bit to the grinding wheel at an angle of 59.degree.. By pivoting the guide plate relative to the bearing members, the trailing portion of the cutting edge of the drill bit is relieved.
