    • In an internal machining apparatus for machining an internal surface of a hollow workpiece, a machining unit holding a cutting blade is configured to be inserted into the hollow workpiece. A pair of unit holding arbors which are capable of non-rotatably holding the machining unit, inserted in the hollow workpiece, at both sides thereof are respectively supported by a work head and a foot stock to advance and retract in an axial direction thereof. A turning mechanism is provided to be supplied with a drive power transmitted through the interior of one of the unit holding arbors for turning the cutting blade held on the machining unit about an axis orthogonal to an axis of the unit holding arbors.

    • A chuck apparatus including a plurality of radially movable jaws for gripping a drill rod, each jaw being moved radially by an axially movable bowl, each jaw and the corresponding bowl surfaces are provided with two sets of camming surfaces, the first set of camming surface being oriented with a steeper angle than the second set of camming surfaces. In operation, as the bowl moves relative to the jaws with the respective first set of camming surfaces of the jaws and the bowl in contact, the jaw gripping force is relaxed and the jaws release the drill rod. As the bowl and jaws continue to move they transition to interact at their respective second set of camming surfaces whereupon, because the shallow angle of interface, the jaws are moved through a greater distance than if the first set of camming surfaces' steeper angle of interface were employed. As a result, more clearance is provided for freeing the drill rod.

    • A chuck for a workpiece comprising an annular piston housed in the main body of the chuck, an annular adjusting member supported on a cylindrical rod portion integral with the piston and movable only radially thereof, and three clamp levers pivotably mounted on the chuck main body and arranged at an equal spacing along the circumference thereof for radially driving clamp jaws on a front plate of the main body.     • Disclosed are apparatus for gripping and manipulating pipe members, including a plurality of slip carriers mounted on an equal number of carrier actuators. The carrier actuators are arranged within a drive sleeve and constrained by radial T-slot connections to a base ring. Sloped T-slot connections link each of the carrier actuators to the drive sleeve. Longitudinal movement of the drive sleeve in one sense propels the carrier actuators and the slip carriers radially inwardly whereby slips mounted on the slip carriers may grip a pipe member positioned within the drive sleeve; longitudinal movement of the drive sleeve in the opposite sense withdraws the carrier actuators and slip carriers from the pipe member. Cooperating wedging surfaces between each of the slip carriers and the corresponding carrier actuator permits the application of holding or moving force on pipe members in either longitudinal sense. The base ring may be rotated by means of a chain drive mechanism to thereby apply torque to pipe members by way of the slips.
