    • A molten metal holding furnace for supplying a constant quantity of the molten metal to a casting machine is composed of a holding chamber having a melt supply port, and a pressurization chamber having an upward melt outlet port. The holding chamber and the pressurization chamber are communicated with each other via an openable/closable first melt flow passage. The pressurization chamber is composed of a outlet section at which the melt outlet port is positioned and a pressurization section positioned on one side closer to the holding chamber. The holding chamber and the outlet section are juxtaposed with the pressurization section interposed therebetween, where the first melt flow passage is formed at a hearth of the pressurization section, and an openable/closable second melt flow passage communicating with the outlet section is formed at a hearth of the pressurization section.

    • A pump for pumping molten metal includes a pump base comprised of non-metallic, heat resistant material. The pump base comprises an inlet opening, a wall that forms a pumping chamber, a passageway that communicates the inlet opening with the pumping chamber, and an outlet opening that communicates with the pumping chamber. A piston comprising non-metallic, heat resistant material is disposed in the pumping chamber. The wall comprises non-metallic, heat resistant material. A connecting member is fastened to the piston. A valve permits and restricts flow of molten metal in the pump base. An actuator is connected to the metal connecting member, the actuator being adapted for effecting reciprocal movement of the piston in the pumping chamber. The piston has a coefficient of thermal expansion and configuration effective to enable it to expand into contact with the wall during its reciprocal movement in the pumping chamber. When used in a die casting apparatus, also featured is a shot chamber disposed near the discharge opening for receiving molten metal discharged from the conduit. A ram is disposed in the chamber for injecting the molten metal in the chamber into a die for casting the molten metal.

    • The machine has a casting ladle mounted rotatably on a movable support member which conveys the ladle between a filling station and at least one casting station. The movable member carries a motorized rotary disc cam cooperating with a cam-follower which controls rotations of the ladle. The cam profile includes a larger sector of increasing radius to cause a pouring rotation of the ladle at the casting station and a smaller sector of decreasing radius to cause a return rotation of the ladle to the upright position after casting. The cam has, between the two sections, a profile portion which is re-entrant towards the axis of rotation of the cam and in which the cam-follower is engageable selectively to cause a sharp rotation of the ladle from the upright position to an inverted position, so as to release the skin or crust of solidified metal from the inside of the ladle when the latter is at a cleaning station. Control means are provided for avoiding engagement of the cam-follower in the re-entrant portion at least when the ladle is in the casting station, and for disengaging the cam-follower from the re-entrant portion after the inversion of the ladle.
