Using a narrow, rather than broad, channel permits better control of the flow and helps prevent overflowing the launder or a structure adjacent the launder. 摘要： A molten metal pump assembly (10) and method to fill complex molds with molten metal, such as aluminum. The pump assembly includes an elongated shaft (16) connecting a motor (14) to an impeller (22). The impeller is housed within a chamber (18) of a base member such that rotation of the impeller draws molten metal into the chamber at an inlet (48) and forces molten aluminum through an outlet (50). A first bearing (36) is adapted to support the rotation of the impeller at a first radial edge (32) and a second bearing (38) is adapted to support the rotation of the impeller at a second radial edge. A bypass gap (60) is interposed between the second bearing and the second radial edge. Molten metal leaks through the bypass gap at a predetermined rate to manipulate a flow rate and a head pressure of the molten metal such that precise control of the flow rate is achieved.

The supply includes a tank in which molten metal is stored, a supply pipe connected between the chamber and the tank, a supplier interposed in the supply pipe to supply molten metal from the tank to the processing chamber, and the recovery mechanism recovers molten metal from the processing chamber.

摘要： A pump for pumping molten metal includes a pump base comprised of non-metallic, heat resistant material. The pump base comprises an inlet opening, a wall that forms a pumping chamber, a passageway that communicates the inlet opening with the pumping chamber, and an outlet opening that communicates with the pumping chamber. A piston comprising non-metallic, heat resistant material is disposed in the pumping chamber. The wall comprises non-metallic, heat resistant material. A connecting member is fastened to the piston. A valve permits and restricts flow of molten metal in the pump base. An actuator is connected to the metal connecting member, the actuator being adapted for effecting reciprocal movement of the piston in the pumping chamber. The piston has a coefficient of thermal expansion and configuration effective to enable it to expand into contact with the wall during its reciprocal movement in the pumping chamber. When used in a die casting apparatus, also featured is a shot chamber disposed near the discharge opening for receiving molten metal discharged from the conduit. A ram is disposed in the chamber for injecting the molten metal in the chamber into a die for casting the molten metal.

摘要： The machine has a casting ladle mounted rotatably on a movable support member which conveys the ladle between a filling station and at least one casting station. The movable member carries a motorized rotary disc cam cooperating with a cam-follower which controls rotations of the ladle. The cam profile includes a larger sector of increasing radius to cause a pouring rotation of the ladle at the casting station and a smaller sector of decreasing radius to cause a return rotation of the ladle to the upright position after casting. The cam has, between the two sections, a profile portion which is re-entrant towards the axis of rotation of the cam and in which the cam-follower is engageable selectively to cause a sharp rotation of the ladle from the upright position to an inverted position, so as to release the skin or crust of solidified metal from the inside of the ladle when the latter is at a cleaning station. Control means are provided for avoiding engagement of the cam-follower in the re-entrant portion at least when the ladle is in the casting station, and for disengaging the cam-follower from the re-entrant portion after the inversion of the ladle.

摘要： A system and method for filling a mold with molten aluminum includes a molten metal pump, a vessel configured to contain molten metal, a mold for receiving molten metal, and a conduit between the vessel and the mold. Molten metal is pumped in the vessel until it reaches a level at which it flows through the conduit and into the mold. The flow of molten metal into the mold is stabilized to maintain a level of molten metal in the mold. A skin of solid metal forms between the mold and the conduit, at which time the pumping of molten metal can cease. The mold with solid metal in it can be moved.
