    • A microprocessor controlled apparatus and method for processing sheet material into building panels for assembly into buildings. The sheet material is formed into a panel having a flat bottom and sides while the length of the formed panel is monitored to control operation of the forming device. The panel is then fed into a curve-forming device which crimps at least a portion of the panel so that it is arched or curved. The curvature of the output panel is monitored to control the location of adjustable crimper rollers disposed in the curve-forming device to provide the portion of the panel with an accurate preselected curvature. The length of the curved portion of the panel is monitored when producing panels having both straight and curved portions, and the crimper rollers automatically reset to form portions with a different radius of curvature. Predetermined panel designs can be stored in a database and the microprocessor can control the apparatus to automatically produce such panel designs upon the input of appropriate data.

    • A method of bending a contoured metal sheet, the contoured metal sheet having a longitudinal axis extending along the length of the contoured metal sheet comprising:



      securing a first sheet section of the contoured metal sheet in a securing section between a securing surface of a securing member and an engagement surface of an engagement member;
      positioning at least part of a second sheet section of the contoured metal sheet in a forming section between a forming member having a pressing surface and a seating member having a seating surface;
      moving the forming section and the securing section relative to one another to: bend the first sheet section the selected angle relative to the second sheet section over a first bending edge; and feed the second sheet section from between the pressing surface and the seating surface, over a second bending edge, to between a forming surface and a backing surface; and
      positioning a following section substantially adjacent to the second bending edge to cooperate with the forming surface to engage and compress a portion of the second sheet section of the contoured metal sheet therebetween when the relative movement between the securing section and the forming section moves the backing surface to a position remote from the forming surface of the forming member.

    • This invention relates to the bending of shaped sheet metal, which shows alternatingly occurring longitudinal ridges and valleys, the lateral portions of which constitute lateral portions of the ridges, about an axis, which extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the ridges and valleys and is in parallel with the plane of the sheet. Known methods of bending such shaped sheet metal have proved to have certain limitations with respect to applicability and smallest bending radius to be obtained in one or more coherent bending moments or steps. For eliminating these shortcomings a method of bending shaped sheet metal is proposed, at which the bending takes place in at least two subsequent moments or steps. At the first bending moment transverse ridges are formed from below along at least one line in parallel with said axis in the valleys for partially bending the sheet (A), and at the second bending moment transverse ridges are formed from below on both sides of the transverse ridges formed at the first bending moment, for finally bending the sheet (A) to the desired bending angle.

    • A bending machine for bending longitudinally elongated channel-shaped sheet metal members according to the present invention consists of a frame and a die set including a female die assembly and a male die assembly and drive means for driving the die set to and fro between an open and closed position. The female die assembly consists of two members, one of which is held stationary relative to the frame and the other of which is movable relative to the first for movement towards and away from the male die element. The first member of the female die assembly serves to clamp the channel-shaped member with respect to the male die element and the second member of the female die assembly serves to form corrugations in the elongated channel-shaped members.

    • A method of bending a corrugated sheet about an axis extending at right angles to the corrugations is disclosed wherein a plurality of rib formations are pressed in those corrugations having their apices nearest the axis, the rib formations all projecting from the same surface of the sheet relative to the axis and extending at an angle to the corrugations over at least part of the side portions and at least part of the intermediate portions of the corrugations.
