    • A document shredder with a motor, a cutting unit, and a motor control, wherein the motor control may start, stop and reverse the motor. The motor control may limit the maximally allowed load of the motor to a predetermined load limit value. In case the motor reaches the maximally allowed load limit value, the load limit value may be increased for a predetermined time, either manually or automatically. In this way a short overload does not lead to a paper jam and the shredder does not have to be reversed, which may cause a paper mess in the workplace. The motor may be a direct current motor and/or a series motor, so that the load limit value may be defined by a maximally allowable motor current.

    • An article destruction device includes an electric motor driving at least one moving component. An indication panel includes at least three visual indicators situated in sequence. Each visual indicator is associated with a stage of an approaching overload (motor cool down) condition. A first visual indicator lights when the motor or corresponding sensor temperature is below a first threshold, i.e., when the device is first powered on. A second indicator lights when the temperature exceeds the first threshold and is below at least a second threshold, i.e., the temperature is approaching a fault condition. A last visual indicator lights when the temperature exceeds the first and the at least second thresholds, i.e., the fault condition is met. A thermistor on the motor energizes (self-heats) with the motor. A thermostatic switch controls current flow through windings of the motor depending on measured temperatures meeting operating and equilibrium temperature thresholds.

    • A shredder includes a housing having a throat for receiving at least one article to be shredded, and a shredder mechanism having a motor and cutter elements. The shredder also includes a detector that is configured to detect a thickness of the at least one article being received by the throat, and a controller that is configured to operate the motor to drive the cutter elements to shred the at least one article and to set a flutter threshold higher than the predetermined maximum thickness threshold, if the detected thickness is less than a predetermined maximum thickness threshold. The controller is also configured to thereafter continuously detect the thickness of the at least one article being inserted into a throat of the shredder; and to perform a predetermined operation responsive to the thickness detector detecting that the thickness of the at least one article is greater than the flutter threshold.

    • A variable frequency controlling system of a shredder is provided. The variable frequency controlling system includes a thickness sensor, a speed-variable motor and a controlling module. The controlling module is electrically connected to the speed-variable motor and the thickness sensor, and includes a look-up table. The thickness sensor is used for detecting a thickness of an article fed into the shredder. The speed-variable motor is operated at a variable rotating speed. When a thickness-detecting signal is received by the controlling module, the operating data corresponding to the thickness-detecting signal are searched from the look-up table and outputted from the controlling module to the speed-variable motor, thereby controlling the speed-variable motor to be operated at a proper rotating speed. As a consequence, a power-saving purpose is achieved by the variable frequency controlling system.

    • The invention is directed to a touch-sensitive paper shredder control system. The touching feature is implemented through a series of electronic circuits, taking input from a conductive touch panel on the shredder feed throat, processing the signal, and through a motor driving circuit, stopping the mechanical parts of the shredder. The system has a touch detection circuit unit, which contains a bioelectricity controlled switching circuit to sense the conductive touch panel. The bioelectricity controlled switching circuit is configured to trigger a ground switching circuit in the touch detection circuit unit which outputs to a multifunction control circuit unit. The control circuit unit then takes care of the remaining protection issues. The touching device for paper shredders protects humans and other living beings including pets from injuries through automatic and real time monitoring. The complete control process is both safe and sensitive.
