    • A method for dry operation of an agitator bead mill, with a mill housing that includes a grinding chamber, in which a rotatable agitator shaft extends horizontally between an input side and an output side and in which grinding media are situated. An output gas is fed into the grinding chamber on the output side, goes together with ground grist through the separation system radially with respect to the transport direction, and thus leaves the grinding chamber together with ground grist through the separation system and onward through the product output. Also disclosed is an agitator bead mill for executing the method, such that the separation system has a static sieve with a free perforated surface that is chosen in such a way that the pass-through speed of the gas leaving the agitator mill through the separation system and the product outlet amounts approximately to 10 m/s to 30 m/s.

    • A process is provided for recovering metal from metal-containing waste or dross. The process generally includes the steps of comminuting the dross, and then classifying the comminuted dross into a metal enriched large size fraction and salt enriched small size fraction. The process further involves the classification of the large size fraction into a metal-containing product stream and a recycle stream. According to the method, the portion characterized as recycle may then be conducted to the comminution device for further comminution. The salt enriched fraction may be classified on the basis of size, and that portion having a larger size may be conducted to the comminution device for further processing. Additional steps of size classification may also be beneficially utilized according to the process. The disclosed process allows the efficient recovery of metal from metal-containing dross while significantly reducing the amount of waste salts that must be disposed of in landfills.

    • A discharge grate assembly for at least partially guiding slurry from a mill shell chamber toward a discharge trunnion thereof via a pulp lifter chamber. The discharge grate assembly includes a body having apertures for permitting the slurry to flow from the mill shell chamber into the pulp lifter chamber, and a shroud having a number of cover elements and a number of openings located at least partially therebetween. The shroud is movable relative to the body between an open position, in which the openings are at least partially aligned with at least preselected ones of the apertures to permit the slurry to flow therethrough into the pulp lifter chamber, and a closed position, in which the cover elements are at least partially aligned with at least predetermined ones of the apertures, to at least partially prevent the slurry flowing through the apertures back into the mill shell chamber.

    • An operating method for a grinding body mill having a housing which surrounds a grinding chamber in which grinding bodies are arranged and, during normal operation, are set in motion for the purpose of grinding a grinding stock to be ground, which housing includes a product inlet and a product outlet, between which the grinding stock to be ground flows through the moving grinding bodies, wherein, by means of a separating device positioned upstream of the product outlet, grinding bodies are prevented from exiting the grinding chamber into the product outlet during normal operation of the grinding body mill, and wherein furthermore, grinding bodies that have passed through the separating device and onward through the product outlet pass into an upwardly inclined discharge pipe from where, when the grinding body mill is at a standstill, the grinding bodies are directed out of the discharge pipe through the product outlet into a rotor body of the separating device and, when operation of the grinding body mill is resumed, the grinding bodies are conveyed back into the grinding chamber owing to the rotation of the rotor body. The invention also relates to a grinding body mill of the type for carrying out the method.
