摘要： The present invention relates generally to processes for producing aldehydes wherein an olefinic compound, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen are reacted in the presence of a solubilized rhodium-phosphorous complex. In one embodiment, the process comprises (a) receiving a vaporized aldehyde product stream downstream from a hydroformylation reactor, the vaporized aldehyde product stream comprising aldehydes, phosphorous ligand, and aldehyde condensation by-products; (b) contacting the vaporized aldehyde product stream with a partial condenser so as to condense the phosphorous ligand and the by-products, wherein up to 10 weight percent of the vaporized stream is condensed; (c) removing the condensed phosphorous ligand and the condensed by-products from the liquid condensation stream using a refining column; and (d) further processing the vaporized aldehydes from the separate refining column.

摘要： In a process for improving a carbonylation process, iron is removed to maintain an effective Space Time Yield (STY) of the rhodium catalyst of at least 80% of the maximum STY. The process comprises carbonylating methanol in a reactor in a reaction medium comprising water, a rhodium catalyst, methyl iodide and a halide salt, separating a portion of the reaction medium in a flash vessel to form a less volatile stream and a vapor product stream comprising acetic acid, recycling a liquid stream to the reactor, wherein the liquid stream comprises a portion of the less volatile stream and wherein the liquid stream comprises iron, and removing a portion of the iron from the liquid stream to maintain an effective STY of the rhodium catalyst of at least 80% of the maximum STY.

摘要： A compound comprising a class of sulfonated triorganophosphine compounds of formula R1R2P—R3[—O—(CH2)n—(SO3M)]m, wherein the R1 and R2 are selected individually from alkyl, aralkyl, and alicyclic groups, wherein R3 represents a divalent or polyvalent alkylene or alicyclic radical that is bonded to the phosphorus atom and to one or more sulfonate substituents via an alkylether link, and further wherein R3 does not contain any aryl moieties; n is an integer reflecting a number of methylene groups in the alkylether link; M represents a monovalent cation; and m is an integer representing a total number of sulfonated alkylether substituents. The compound is useful as a ligand in transition metal-ligand complex catalysts that are capable of catalyzing the hydroformylation of an olefinically-unsaturated compound with carbon monoxide and hydrogen to form one or more corresponding aldehyde products. The ligand is incapable of alky-aryl exchange, thereby leading to reduced ligand usage and improving ligand and rhodium recovery and recycling.

摘要： Methods of enhancing the solubility of a fluorinated compound in an organic solvent are provided. In one embodiment, carbon dioxide gas pressure is applied to the solvent at a pressure effective to enhance the solubility of the fluorinated compound. The method may further include recrystallizing the fluorinated compound by reducing the pressure of the carbon dioxide gas. Also provided are methods of conducting a reaction using a fluorinated compound in an organic solvent. In one embodiment, the method comprises applying carbon dioxide pressure to an organic solvent comprising at least one substrate and a fluorinated catalyst, in an effective amount to solubilize the catalyst; and permitting the fluorinated catalyst to catalyze the reaction of the substrate to form a product. The catalyst is optionally separated from the reaction product and solvent after the reaction by the release of the pressure.

The processes are particularly useful for recovering the triarylphosphine from spent Group VIII metal catalyst complex mixtures. The processes include the steps of (i) forming a distillate from a Group VIII catalyst complex mixture containing a Group VIII metal catalyst complex, a triarylphosphine, and a light ends component wherein the distillate contains at least a portion of the triarylphosphine as a vapor and at least a portion of the light ends component as a vapor; (ii) cooling the distillate to a temperature below the boiling point of the light ends component to form a condensate; (iii) crystallizing at least a portion of the triarylphosphine using the light ends component as a crystallizing liquid; and (v) recovering the crystallized triarylphosphine from the condensate.
