    • A launching system that launches a toy projectile. A launcher is provided that contains a handle and an elastic element that extends from the handle. A spool is provided inside the handle. The spool is spring biased by a torsion spring. The elastic element is anchored to the spool inside the handle and is at least partially wound around the spool. As the elastic element unwinds from the spool, the spool rotates in opposition of the torsion spring and stores spring energy in the torsion spring. The elastic element has a free end that extends out of the handle. The free end is terminated with a connector. A toy projectile is provided. The toy projectile has a receptacle that selectively receives the connector.

    • A toy projectile apparatus and method are disclosed in which the apparatus may include an elongated body having a wall defining an open interior, a closed end and an open end. A base member may be positioned in the open interior and configured to be moveable along the length thereof. A spring may also be positioned in the interior of the body with one end contacting the closed end of the body and another end contacting the base member so that the base member is biased toward the open end of the body. A resilient member or cap may also be mounted on an exterior of the body at the closed end. One or more toy accessories may also be used in conjunction with the toy projectile apparatus.

    • A parachute rocket toy in which the parachute is attached to the rocket by spars is provided. A preferred embodiment uses semi-rigid spars attached to a ring that surrounds the rocket body and may slide along the body. As a portion of the parachute deploys, it may pull on the closest spars, which in turn pull the connector ring to the top of the rocket. As the ring slides to the top of the rocket, it pushes the spars, and thus the parachute, outward. A tail may be wrapped around the parachute to hold it in place for launch and ascent. After the tail unwraps, it may facilitate deployment of the parachute.

    • In one form of the invention, a deployment control for releasing a rocket recovery device such as a parachute includes an electrical heating element extensible along a heat-severable reach of an elongate retainer capable of being wrapped closely about the recovery device to retain the recovery device in a compact form until the reach is severed as the result of electricity being supplied to the heating element to thereby release and deploy the recovery device. In other forms, an apparatus for cutting a heat meltable retainer to release and deploy a rocket recovery device includes a heating element extending along at least a short reach of the retainer, and a control device for supplying electricity to the heating element for heat severing the retainer reach.
