    • A medical connector includes a housing including a male connector connection section, and a medical instrument connection section; and a valve element including a head section that closes the male connector connection section, and a body section that connects to the head section. The body section of the valve element is arranged in a receiving recess section formed in the housing. The housing and valve are configured such that, when a male connector is connected to the male connector connection section, the head section of the valve element is pushed in by the male connector while the head section contracts the body section, a fluid flow passage in the male connector is connected to a fluid flow passage in the medical instrument connection section through a fluid connection passage formed outside the receiving recess section, and the body section is covered by the receiving recess section.

    • Wash port assemblies for airway adapters and methods are described. An example wash port valve assembly may include a multi-part housing defining a cavity and comprising a cap portion having a first hardness, and a base portion having a second hardness that has a hardness value greater than the first hardness. The cap portion may define an inlet port and the base portion may define an outlet port. The valve assembly may include an elastomeric valve disposed within the cavity and may be configured to be movably retained within the multi-part housing. The elastomeric valve may comprise a valve tip portion and a valve end portion distal of the valve tip portion. An example airway adapter assembly may include an adapter housing defining a cleaning chamber, and a wash port coupling assembly coupled to the wash port of the cleaning chamber.

    • An improved luer lock receiving septum having a configuration which provides rapid and tight resealing and yet allows penetration of the septum by the luer tip with a low penetration force. The elongated septum includes an upper portion of enlarged diameter having a target surface, a central slit, and a central, lower septum extension projecting about the slit below the upper portion and into a housing so that following luer insertion there is provided sufficient room for both the laterally displaced extension of the septum, the luer taper, and the housing to be received into a conventional luer lock connector. The septum is further preferably configured to minimize or eliminate the negative pressure deflection normally associated with the withdrawal of the large diameter luer cannula from an enclosed fluid filled lumen or chamber, by substantially isolating the lumen or chamber from the septum material displacement resultant from luer insertion. In an exemplary embodiment, the luer receiving septum is provided at a port of an air evacuated blood collector.
