摘要： The present invention provides methods and compositions for the treatment of ion imbalances using core-shell composites and compositions comprising such core-shell composites. In particular, the invention provides core-shell particles and compositions comprising potassium binding polymers, and core-shell particles and compositions comprising sodium binding polymers, and in each case, pharmaceutical compositions thereof. Methods of use of the polymeric and pharmaceutical compositions for therapeutic and/or prophylactic benefits are also disclosed. The compositions and methods of the invention offer improved approaches for treatment of hyperkalemia and other indications related to potassium ion homeostasis, and for treatment of hypertension and other indicates related to sodium ion homeostasis.

摘要： Topical compositions having as the active ingredient a hydrophilic material, such as a polyalkylene oxide homopolymer or copolymer, and methods of use, have been developed for the amelioration or prevention of pain or the sequelae of pain. The composition may be in the form of a cream, gel, lotion, spray, foam, paste, patch, suspension or dispersion. In the preferred embodiment, the formulation is a gel. The composition may contain a penetration enhancer, most preferably one with membrane disruptive properties. In one embodiment, the compositions are incorporated onto or into disposables such as hemorrhoid wipes, gauze, sponge, bandages, and wraps; mouth guards, dental trays; needles or catheters; adult diapers; gloves, socks or wrist bands, for ease of application. The composition is applied topically to a site at or adjacent to a painful region. The composition is reapplied as necessary. Pain relief is typically obtained within minutes and lasts for periods of variable duration ranging from minutes to several hours and even, in some cases, days. The composition is variably effective to treat visceral, somatic and neuropathic pain both acute and chronic as well as muscle pain and stiffness and joint pain and stiffness.

摘要： A bioactive and biocompatible polyurethane-butanediol-glycosaminoglycan copolymer for use in medical implant devices. The biocompatible urethane component being the reaction product of 4,4′-methylene-di-(p-phenyl isocyanate) and poly(tetramethylene oxide)n and further reacted with 1,4-butanediol, wherein n=10 to 40. The bioactive glycosaminoglycan being a salt of hyaluronic acid, such as a cetylpyridinium salt acid having 5 to 10,000 repeating units or a salt of heparin, such as a dimethyldioctadecylammonium salt of heparin has 5 to 65 repeating units or a suitable salt of dermatan sulfate. The weight content of the bioactive glycosaminoglycan is an amount sufficient to render the copolymer bioactive. The copolymers described herein have excellent hemocompatibility and biocompatibility.

Further disclosed are compositions comprising open-celled polymeric foams wherein the compositions are useful for the purpose of sequestering aqueous and/or hydrophilic materials present in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby ameliorating diarrhea. Kits comprising the compositions and methods of using the compositions and kits are also described.
