    • Because sidewalks are sloped for rain, one arm may tire before the other when pushing a stroller or wheelchair because it constantly requires more force from one hand to offset gravity in order to go straight. A slip clutch to couple/uncouple the rear wheels acts like AUTOPILOT STEERING, and that makes pushing more efficient, easier/less strain, on any surface. The slip clutch automatically couples/uncouples the wheels depending on the force difference applied by the hands pushing. When the force difference is moderate, the combined force will 100% efficiently propel straight! Without a slip clutch, even a moderate difference in force will cause some zigzagging which is less efficient and takes more energy than going straight. To turn, the force difference is intentionally greater to automatically uncouple the two wheels to allow turning. Turning requires more energy—that's the tradeoff. However, conveyances are pushed straight most of the time.

    • Sloped-for-rain urban sidewalks are horrible for wheelchair users because of the constant veering-off threat caused by gravity. Anybody who tries to self-propel a wheelchair on a city sidewalk for the first time is in for a rude awakening—the user must use one hand to steer by retarding one wheel, and that makes propelling inefficient, difficult and frustrating, to say nothing of the dangerous veering-off threat. Applicant's solution is to provide joining means to couple and uncouple the drive wheels. The joining means, when coupled, causes the two drive wheels to rotate in unison preventing the wheelchair from veering-off so that it travels straight when traversing a sloped surface, and when uncoupled allowing the two drive wheels to rotate at different speeds to allow turning. Joining means comprises: slip-clutch, gear configuration or the like, and may be automatic or user controlled.

    • The manual shopping chair includes a frame supported by a left rear wheel, a right rear wheel, a left front caster wheel and a right front caster wheel. A wheel lock disk with a plurality of radially extending slots is connected to each rear wheel. Springs urge lock bars toward the slots to lock both wheels. The lock bars are manually held out of the slots during movement. A mast is clamped to the frame front. A pair of basket support tubes are pivotally attached to the mast by a shaft in vertical slots. A basket is clamped to basket tubes. The basket is pivotable from a storage position to an upright position. Hooks hold the support tubes in an upright position. The mast top edge is lower than a seat mounted on the frame for nesting multiple shopping units.

    • A molded braking and support wheel assembly for a multi-wheeled wheelchair for a handicapped person. The wheel assembly includes a braking support wheel molded as a single unit of plastic or plastic-like material having concentric components including a tire receiving rim, a wheel bearing and brake assembly receiving hub, and spaced wheel spokes substantially radially extending between the hub and rim. A ring or band-shaped metal brake drum is also molded as a unit into the hub, the brake drum having a generally cylindrical inner braking friction surface and plastic-interlocking outer surface features which permanently interlock with the plastic material when the braking support wheel is mold formed. The plastic-interlocking outer features are molded with the hub into a single unit with the support wheel to secure the brake drum from relative movement in the hub. The brake drum defines a generally cylindrical cavity for operatively receiving the brake assembly. The hub includes a wheel bearing cavity coaxial with said brake drum for receiving spaced wheel bearings positioned therein.

    • Automatic locking systems for wheelchairs have a locking hub for attachment to a main wheel of the wheelchair, and a lock pin which is reciprocally rectilinearly moveable between locked and unlocked conditions with the lock hub. A rotary actuator is operatively coupled to the lock pin and is rotatable between normal and active positions which responsively causes the lock pin to move rectilinearly between its unlocked and locked positions, respectively. A pivotal actuator lever is provided having one end positionable in close proximity to a seat of the wheelchair. The actuator lever is thus mounted for pivotal movements between raised and lowered conditions relative to the wheelchair seat. A flexible actuator cable connects a proximal end of the actuator lever and the rotary actuator. In operation, therefore, pivotal movement of the distal end of said actuator lever between its raised and lowered conditions responsively causes the actuator cable to rotate the rotary actuator between its normal and active conditions, respectively. As a result, the lock pin is caused to move to its locked position with the lock hub to thereby lock the main wheel of the wheelchair and prevent its rolling movement across the floor surface.
