    • This invention relates to a lift device adapted to transfer wheelchair passengers to commuter aircraft. A base and optional four post system provide support for a vertically moveable platform. An apron, which can be used either as a ramp from lowered platform to ground or a bridge from elevated platform to aircraft is provided. The platform is preferably raised and lowered using ball or acme screw-bushing brackets. The platform can be used to load and unload passengers from rear and front door commuter aircraft, on either side of the fuselage. The lift can be incorporated into a wheeled chassis, which can be lowered into ground contact at the position of use. Optionally extendible stairs are present to allow other passengers to enter or leave the aircraft using said platform and apron.

    • A lift assembly is provided which can be mechanically converted from a stationary step-like configuration to a movable platform configuration, thus allowing both handicapped and non-handicapped passengers to use a single vehicle entrance having the lift assembly operative within it.A pair of lifting columns are provided which are movable along guide members mounted at the entrance of the vehicle. A platform is hingably connected at its inner edge to the bases of the lifting columns and comprises a linear assembly of hinged plates. Radius arms, pivotally connected with the outer edge portion of the platform and with the lifting columns, suspend the outer end of the platform. Means, such as hydraulic cylinders, pivotally connected with the outer edge portion of the platform and with the lifting columns, are controlled to extend or contract the assembly of hinged plates between a flat, horizontal configuration level with the floor surface of the vehicle and a step-like configuration within the opening and also act to securely maintain the plates in the desired configuration. Means are provided to raise or lower the lifting columns while the platform is in the flat, horizontal configuration. In this manner the platform may be lowered to the grade to receive a passenger and raised to the level of the vehicle floor.

    • This invention relates to an automatic lift device for use in association with doorway openings of buildings or of vehicles such as buses and vans so as to facilitate the loading and unloading of handicapped persons into and out of such buildings and/or vehicles. More specifically, the invention relates to an automatic lift device which consists of a lift carriage that is mounted within the doorway opening so as to be vertically movable therein. Movable step and riser elements are provided within the lift carriage so as to form normal upper and lower entrance steps in their retracted normal use position. The lift carriage is selectively movable to a lowered ground level position and a raised interior floor level position while the upper step and riser remain in their retracted normal step position within the lift carriage. The upper step and riser pivotally connected thereto are selectively extendable outwardly and downwardly so as to form a continuous horizontal loading platform in association with the fixed lower step formed by the base of the lift carriage. Thus formed, the horizontal loading platform can be selectively lowered to the ground or curb level or to any level intermediate thereto. It can be also selectively raised to the interior vehicle floor level thereby enabling a handicapped person, on crutches or in a wheelchair, to easily board or disembark from such vehicles at will. The riser element which is pivotally connected to the movable upper step can be selectively raised to form a ramp extension of the loading platform. The riser is pivotally movable from its ramp extension position so as to automatically compensate for uneven ground so as to facilitate movement of a wheelchair onto the loading platform. After a wheelchair has been moved onto the loading platform, the riser can be selectively pivotally moved to a position above the horizontal so as to act as a guard against inadvertent movement of the wheelchair from the platform while the platform is being raised to the level of the vehicle inside floor.

    • A combination access stairstep and elevator means for use in a passenger vehicle entryway. In its retracted normal position a passenger elevator platform member projects freely into the entryway part of its width below passenger deck level to serve as an access step for passengers who can ascend and descend on foot. Such platform member is mounted as part of a dual-arm parallelogram linkage mechanism on a guided, horizontally reciprocative carriage, the various parts of which in normal position are compactly stowed at a common level out of the entryway passage beneath the passenger deck. In order to accommodate disabled persons, the platform member may be fully extended outward in the entryway for use in elevating crippled persons and passengers in wheelchairs between deck level and curb or ground level. Grab rails with rail posts mounted on the normally projecting portion of the platform member can serve as a steadying aid to passengers in all positions of the platform member.

    • A wheelchair lift (100) for a vehicle having a barrier (128) moveable between an access position and a blocking position. The wheelchair lift includes an actuator (152) coupled to the barrier, the actuator adapted to apply an actuation force upon the barrier to move the barrier from the access position to the blocking position. When the barrier is in an unloaded state, the actuation force causes the actuator to move in a first direction resulting in the barrier moving from the access position to the blocking position.
