摘要： A rongeur cutting system and method of operating said system. The rongeur cutting system may comprise a cutting unit that includes an outer tube and a cutting implement capable of both oscillation and longitudinal movement within the outer tube. The rongeur cutting system may also comprise a handpiece including a power source and spindle for actuating the cutting implement. The method of operating the rongeur cutting system may comprise operating the rongeur cutting system in a manual mode and/or operating the rongeur cutting system in a power mode. The manual mode includes moving the cutting implement longitudinally within the outer tube to manually cut tissue without utilizing the power source, and the power mode includes actuating a motor to manipulate the cutting implement within the outer tube while moving the cutting implement longitudinally within the cutting tube.

摘要： A collector used to collect bone includes: a container body defining an interior containment space for receiving and retaining collected bone, and having at least one open end for access and removal of collected bone from the interior containment space; and a cap in covering relation to the open end of the container body such that access to the interior containment space for removal of collected bone is inhibited. The collector includes an intake port defining an opening for receiving therein a distal end of a kerrison rongeur for collecting cut bone from a cutting area thereof, and the cap includes at least one scraper for engaging and dislodging cut bone from the cutting area of a distal end of a kerrison rongeur when received within the intake port. The collector preferably is used with a kerrison rongeur for collecting cut bone therefrom.

摘要： An elastomeric sleeve which is a hollow tube having a first side, a second opposite side, a top end, and a bottom end, wherein the top end is open and the bottom end is closed. The second opposite side has a slit extending from the top end towards the bottom end. The slit and the open top end make the sleeve easy to place over the handle and to remove it from the handle. The closed bottom end facilitate the sleeves remaining on the handle during use. The slit may have an opening so that handle elements, such as leaf springs, may extend therethrough. The sleeve may have a cover for a horn member on a handle of a rongeur. The cover may have a flange at a base of the cover, thereby forming a cushion. The cover and cushion reduce or eliminate fatigue and trauma to the thenar muscles and surrounding nerves. The sleeve may also have a thumb support.

Stabilization of a spinal segment is also provided by advancing a substantially concave orthopedic implant through an opening made in a posterior aspect of a disc space.
