    • A sealing system for sealing a cover about a roof opening. The system includes a perimeter sill having as a retaining clip and tab, a counterflashing, and a retaining rod placed between the counterflashing the retaining clip for securing the counterflashing piece in place. The counterflashing piece is inserted between the retaining clip and the retaining tab. The retaining clip provides the pressure against the retaining rod to prevent the counterflashing piece from slipping. The counterflashing piece has its lower edge shaped to in contact with the building when the counterflashing piece is inserted between the retaining tab and retaining clip.

    • A technique for sealing a skylight at its curb frame about an opening in a building and in which the sealing technique is a dry sealing technique. In accordance with the invention, means are provided for directly securing the curb frame to the building. A flexible flashing flange extends from the base of the curb frame and is disposed about the periphery of the curb frame having a plurality of elongated spaced upstanding ribs that form flow diverters extending peripherally about the curb frame. The plurality of elongated spaced upstanding ribs are preferably provided in spaced sets each of a plurality of ribs.

    • The skylight may be of the domed-type or flat-type and of single or double glass (acrylic or other transparent or translucent plastic) construction. The skylight fits within an opening in a roof or the like and has a peripheral curb of an extruded rigid thermoplastic, such as polyvinylchloride (PVC), which is fixed to the roof construction about the opening. The rigid thermoplastic curb has a top co-extruded flexible thermoplastic (such as PVC) gasket integral with the curb and compressible against the edge of the glass or plastic dome or panel. There is also provided a second flexible integral co-extruded thermoplastic gasket adapted to contact a retainer secured to the curb for retaining the dome or panel on the curb. The rigid curb is of a thermoplastic in the shore "D" durometer hardness scale, while the flexible gaskets are of a thermoplastic in the shore "A" durometer hardness scale. A heat platten welding technique, which would most commonly be used in welding the curb frame mitres, would also weld the gaskets simultaneously for a continuous seal. Other less commonly used thermoplastic welding techniques, such as ultrasonic, hot gas, high frequency and friction, could be employed to accomplish the simultaneous bond at the corners.

    • The skylight may be of the domed-type or flat type and of single or double glass (acrylic or other transparent or translucent plastic) construction. The skylight fits within an opening in a roof or the like and has a peripheral curb of aluminum or the like material which is fixed to the roof construction about the opening. The curb member or frame at its top receives a flexible thermoplastic (such as PVC) gasket compressible against the edge of the glass or plastic dome or panel. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention the frame may be constructed of a material such as PVC, in which case the top gasket may be integral with the frame or curb. In this case there may also be a second flexible thermosplastic gasket adapted to contact a retainer secured to the curb for retaining the dome or panel on the curb. In another embodiment of the invention the frame or curb may be constructed of aluminum or the like having a thermal bridge associated with the frame to minimize the transfer of heat from one side of the frame extrusion to the other. The frame may also have associated therewith stops extending upwardly for limiting the position of the domes or panels. These stops are useful in transportation of the unit and also when the unit is to be installed on a slanted roof.

    • An energy efficient skylight construction. A skylight cover is secured by a frame to a curbing comprised of an insulating core, the interior and exterior surfaces of which are covered by non-combustible shields separated along the upper and lower surfaces of the curbing by a gap which serves as a "thermal break" between the highly conductive inner and outer shields. The frame is pierced by drain openings the exterior of which are covered by a filter type material such as foam or glass fibers that is both absorbtive of moisture and resistant to the passage of air. The frame is secured to the outward portion of the curbing and includes a flange extending inward across the gap between the shields, which serves as a gutter to collect condensation which drips off the glazing. The inward portion of the flange is covered with an insulating gasket which prevents condensation from forming on the flange and which prevents the warmer, more moisture laden, inside air from reaching the cold underside of the gutter flange or the edge of the outer skin. The core insulation is inserted, without adhesives, into the assembled inside skin, and then the exposed surface of the insulation is bonded to the inside surface of the outer skin.

    • A skylight that may have a domed-type or flat-type glazing and which is adapted to fit within the opening of a roof or the like having a peripheral frame which is fixed to the roof about the opening. The frame is constructed including a base frame and an operating leaf frame usually referred to as an operating leaf frame or operating leaf. A retainer is used for securing the skylight cover over the operating leaf frame. The frame comprises a rigid plastic profile (core) having high temperature resistant properties and a plastic capping material extruded over the external exposed surface of the core to protect the profile from weathering. There is also preferably provided with the profile and capping, a flexible gasket means which may include respective gaskets associated with both the base frame and the operating leaf frame.

    • The skylight may be of the domed-type or flat-type and of single or double glass (acrylic or other transparent or translucent plastic) construction. The skylight fits within an opening in a roof or the like and has a peripheral base that may be constructed of a metal material such as aluminum, and which is fixed to the roof construction about the opening. The base comprises inner and outer base frames separated by a thermal break, a peripheral curb frame disposed over the base, and a retainer for securing the skylight dome over the curb frame. In one embodiment the thermal break is formed by a separate gasket preferably in the form of a pre-molded butyl tape with a neoprene shim. The curb frame is sealed to the base by means of a hollow second gasket preferably secured to the base but separate from the butyl gasket. In another embodiment, a foam rubber gasket is employed having an enclosed hollow tube for maximum compliance functioning both as the thermal break and as the gasket between the base and the curb frame. The gasket is provided in rectangular sizes corresponding to the opening size with mitred and vulcanized corners thus providing an optimum seal.
