In the preferred embodiment the hydraulic system is serially coupled between the hydraulic cylinders associated with each deck rail, which ensures that the displacement of hydraulic pistons raising both deck rails is synchronous so that the two deck rails are lifted at the same rate and remain horizontally aligned throughout lifting and lowering, and an incremental braking system is provided which automatically locks the deck rails into any desired elevated position, reducing the load on the hydraulic system and providing a failsafe against free-falling of the deck rails in the event of hydraulic failure.

    • The invention provides an adjustable shelf bracket having means for making fine adjustments in the attitude of the bracket relative to the supporting surface, which allows the shelf to be levelled both longitudinally and transversely, and substantially facilitates alignment with adjacent shelves. In one embodiment this is accomplished by pivotally suspending a shelf clip from a vertical mounting gusset designed to be hung on the supporting surface, such that the attitude of the clip relative to the supporting surface can be adjusted. Adjusting means such as an adjusting screw engaged in a hole tapped through the clip bears against the mounting gusset to limit the travel of the clip under the weight of the shelf. The position of the adjusting screw thus determines the attitude of the portion of the shelf being supported by the clip.

    • The invention provides a hardware mounting system for display and shelving units utilizing removable mounting studs which engage through the display panels into slots provided in the hardware. The studs are positioned at any desired location on the panels of the display or shelving unit, and concealed by the hardware when mounted while providing secure engagement of the hardware to the panel. In the preferred embodiment, the stud is inserted through the rear of the panel and projects slightly beyond the front face of the panel when fully inserted so the hardware does not contact the panel. The invention can also be used for affixing abutting sections of the display unit. Thus, the invention allows for the versatile positioning of hardware without detracting from the aesthetic appeal or sacrificing the load bearing capability of the unit.

    • The invention provides an adjustable standard system for a shelving or display unit having support means comprising supporting hardware attached to a sliding body engaged about a mounting rail. The rail comprises an enlarged front edge or bead which extends through a channel in the sliding body such that the sliding body can slide freely but cannot become detached from the rail. In a preferred embodiment the rail has a tongue provided with openings into which a latch projecting from the support means can be selectively engaged. The rail can be provided with hooks configured to mount on a conventional slotted standard, or with any other securing means which allows the rail to be mounted on a supporting surface. The standard system of the invention provides greater aesthetic appeal than a conventional standard system. Moreover, the sliding body can be engaged to and adjusted on the mounting rail without tilting the supporting hardware, which requires less clearance above supporting structures such as shelves, platforms and the like which increases the number of positions available for such structures, and permits supporting structures and hardware to be rearranged without removing stored or displayed articles.
