    • A folio is comprised of a sheet of flat, expansive panel stock having a backing region and a document retention region that is folded about a laterally-extending fold or folds against the backing region. The sheet is also folded longitudinally perpendicular to the laterally-extending fold in articulated fashion to define a plurality of panels or leaves. Specifically, the longitudinal folds form a pair of mutually-adjacent interior panels and a pair of side panels. A separate one of the side panels is joined to each of the interior panels by longitudinal side panel delineating folds. Each of the side panels has one bound edge and one unbound edge. The bound edges of the side panels are secured to each other, preferably by means of transition webs that are defined between the side panels and the interior panels. The folio may include a jacket within which the sheet of folded stock forming the interior panels and side panels is encompassed. The document retention portion of the structure may take the form of pockets defined onto the various panels or document retention tabs that are punched to receive conventional pronged fasteners for securing papers punched at the top.

    • A device is provided for protecting a transparent display sheet bearing material thereon for projected display. Such protective devices typically employ blank, opaque backing sheets that are secured to a pair of transparent protective sheets forming a pocket for the display sheet, or directly to the display sheet itself. According to the invention, and unlike prior systems, the backing sheet is divided by a longitudinal fold into a pair of panels. One of these panels resides immediately adjacent the edge at which the backing sheet is connected to the transparent display sheet. The other panel is located remote from the connecting edge of the backing sheet, and may be folded back beneath the first panel so that the entire structure will fit atop the stage of a conventional machine for projecting images from transparent display sheets. This construction prevents the backing sheet from overhanging the edge of the stage and falling off during a presentation.

    • An insert is provided for a bifolding folder having front and back covers. The insert is a holder for a multipage document or other soft-covered document, such as a magazine, bound by staples or adhesive along its spine. The holder of the invention is formed as a stiff, elongated, flat strip with a narrow, elongated document slot defined therewithin. The document slot receives substantially half of the pages of the soft document, which is held to the strip by a retaining bar on one side of the slot. The holder also includes an attachment hinge joined to the strip and having elongated, longitudinally extending anchoring and holder attachment leaves. The holder attachment leaf is secured to the strip along its length by adhesive or other types of fasteners. The anchoring leaf may have a layer of adhesive disposed thereon or it may be formed of a heat sealable material. The anchoring leaf is adapted for attachment to the inside surface of either the front or back cover of the folder. The holder insert of the invention thereby allows a conventional folder to be modified so as to secure a magazine or other bound, soft-covered document therein in such a manner as to permit access to all of the pages of the document.

    • A separator page is provided for a set of papers of uniform size and shape. The separator page preferably has the same rectangular size and shape as each of the papers in the set of papers. At an unbound edge the separator page has a plurality of parallel, uniformly space slots of uniform length. These slots are spaced a uniform distance from the selected unbound edge. An index tab has a labeling portion wider than the distance between the slots and the edge along which the slots are aligned. A pair of insertion ears extend in opposite directions from the labeling portion of each index tab. Each of the ears is of such a width as to fit snugly into the slots. The index tabs are thereby removably and selectively positionable at different locations along the mounting edge with the ears thereof inserted into alternatively selected slots. The labeling portion of the index tab projects outwardly from the selected unbound edge of the set of papers, and is thereby visible in between the papers. Because the longitudinal position of the index tab may be varied to an extent limited only by the number of slots, the separator page of the invention has considerably greater versatility than conventional separator or divider pages that are utilized to delineate different sections within a set of papers.

    • An office envelope is constructed of at least one flat sheet of stock of uniform thickness throughout folded to form overlying front and back panels and a pocket panel secured to the back panel. The panels are secured together by longitudinally extending heat seals located near the edges of the pocket panel. These edges are respectively secured to the back panel proximate the opposing side edges thereof. Also, one of the sides of the envelope is provided with an overlap margin that is also secured to the back panel. The overlap margin of the side panel may be secured to the back panel by the same seal that secures one of the sealing margins of the pocket panel to the back panel. Alternatively, separate seals may be utilized to secure the overlap margin of the side panel to the back panel and the pocket panel to the back panel by two closely spaced lines of sealing. The office envelope may be constructed from either a single sheet of flat stock, in which case all of the panels and flaps are formed from the same sheet of stock. Alternatively, the pocket panel and one of the bottom panels may be formed from one sheet of stock, and the front, back, and side panels and the other bottom panel may be formed from a different sheet of stock. When more than one sheet of stock is utilized to form the office envelope, a transparent sheet may be utilized to form the pocket panel and one bottom panel, while an opaque or translucent sheet of material may be utilized to form the other panels.

    • An improved box file structure is provide for use in a hanging office drawer file. A pocket member is formed of flat, sheet stock that is folded and fastened in such a way as to form a pair of transverse, mutually parallel retaining panels, a connecting web between the lower extremities of the retaining panels, and end flaps extending between the side edges of the retaining panels. A pair of rigid support bars extend through sleeves formed at the upper extremities of the retaining panels. The support bars have hooks at their ends that engage the rails of the hanging file. The connecting web and the end panels are each divided in half by a fold. The central fold in the connecting web is parallel to the support bars, while the folds that divide the end panels in half are perpendicular thereto. The structure of the pocket sheet may thereby be collapsed fully to bring the retaining panels into face-to-face contact with each other. When employed for use, on the other hand, the box file employs a floor panel that fits down into the pocket formed between the retaining panels and pushes them away from each other until the connecting web resides in a horizontal disposition. Also, both the floor panel and the sleeves that accommodate the support bars are provided with slots. Upright dividers are formed with tabs that engage these slots in both the sleeves and in the floor panel. The dividers can thereby be removably attached to both the floor panel and the sleeves with the floor panel seated in the box file pocket.

    • A document binder is formed with front and back covers hinged together in articulated fashion with a spine located therebetween. An overlay is provided across the outer surface of at least the front cover and the spine and is secured by fusion to inner and outer, plastic cover sheets that encapsulate a flat, stiff, front cover core, spine, and back cover core therebetween. A front cover title sheet pocket is defined between the overlay and the outer, plastic cover sheet. The title sheet pocket is of a narrow enough width to readily accommodate title sheets printed on paper of standard width, such as eight and a half inches. The fabrication technique employed allows a title sheet pocket to be created for the front cover of the document binder which snugly confines the title sheet and prevents it from shifting laterally as occurs in conventional devices. The creation of title sheet pockets with this configuration is possible according to the method of the invention by first fusing together the overlay to the outer plastic cover sheet along a band of attachment near the demarcation between the front cover and the spine, and then fusing the overlay, outer cover sheet, and inner cover sheet together so as to encapsulate the nonfusible, flat, stiff core elements between the two cover sheets. An inside pocket sheet may also be fused to the inner cover sheet during the same step of fusion so as to form pockets on the insides of the front and back covers.
