    • A controlled power supply in which an electric arc is used as a loading element. A single phase ac-to-dc invertor is provided with a matching transformer and a main rectifier and diodes which form the bridge and are connected to the matching transformer. The invertor has a controllable output. The bridge has a diagonal corresponding to an output of the rectifier and electrodes between which an electric arc can be initiated. a circuit for controlling the voltage across the electrodes includes a comparator to compare an actual rectified voltage with a reference value. The comparator provides for changing positions of the electrodes relative to each other. The single-phase ac-to-dc invertor is provided with two phase-shifting circuits that are connected in series and to the matching transformer. One of these phase-shifting circuits is a choke, whereas the other phase-shifting circuit is a capacitor. Each phase-shifting circuit is connected to a corresponding input of the main rectifier. The phase-shifting circuits are connected to an output of the main rectifier in the same polarity with diodes of the main rectifier connected to the electrodes.

    • A continuous-operation extraction apparatus for strip mining that is self propelled on continuous track treads. A cylindrically-shaped cutting extractor has cutting tools arranged on its peripheral surface. Recesses are provided in this peripheral surface for the transfer of extracted material through a chute to a first conveyor that is located axially within the cylinder of the cutting extractor. A second conveyor having loading carts connects with the first conveyor and receives the loosened material from the first conveyor. The first conveyor has an inside section which emerges from a front side of the cylinder and merges outside into a sloping conveyance section which extends vertically to substantially an upper edge of a chassis. An overhead ascending section is connected to the inside section and terminates in a transfer region where the extracted material is transferred to the second conveyor.

    • A digital arrangement for controlling a gas or steam turbine in which operating parameters of the turbine are sensed at a regular rate. Control parameters are then calculated from the operating parameters by at least one control and regulating program with predetermined reference values. The turbine is controlled and monitored in operation, in accordance with the calculated control parameters for the purpose of safeguarding against excess speed or surging. At least two computer systems are operated in parallel and at different speeds, and communications prevail between these two computer systems. The first of the computer systems is operated at a substantially rapid rate and with a limited supply of commands, together with an individual control and regulating program having a set of reference values. The second computer system is operated at a slower rate than the first computer system and with a greater supply of commands. The second computer system is operated with a plurality of control and regulating approaches and sets of reference values. Predetermined operating parameters are acquired by the first computer system for calculating control parameters and transmitting the calculated control parameters to the turbine. A new control and regulating program is selected by the second computer system when operation of the turbine is changed.

    • A regulating method for preventing surges in turbo-compressors, in which the compressor flow and forwarding pressure are continuously measured. The compressor operating point is defined by the compressor flow and the forwarding pressure. Surges are prevented by regulating the opening of at least one blow-off valve by a regulator with an adjustment parameter when the operating point has arrived at a blow-off curve that parallels a surge limit, but before the operating point arrives at the surge limit. The adjustment parameter is returned to an actual state of the blow-off valve by a readjustment circuit when a difference exceeding a predetermined threshold occurs betwen the actual state of the blow-off valve and the adjustment parameter of the regulator.

    • A method for reliably operating turbocompressors in which flow and forwarding pressure defining the operating point of a compressor are continuously measured. At least one blow-off valve or blow-around valve is opened by a blow-off regulating system to prevent surging once the operating point of the compressor has attained a blow-off curve that parallels a surge limit, but before the operating point can attain the surge limit so that the flow will attain a minimum level depending on the forwarding pressure. The speed at which the operating point moves relative to the blow-off curve or surge limit is determined continuously to obtain the opening of either one of the valves ahead of time. The blow-off valve or blow-around valve is opened at maximum speed by a procedure that supercedes a normal blow-off regulation system when the operating point has arrived at or beyond a rapid valve-opening curve representing a speed-dependent minimum distance of the operating point from the blow-off curve. The motion in opening the valve is discontinued and regulation of the valve is resumed beginning with its latest state by the normal blow-off regulation system when the operating point has traveled back beyond the rapid valve-opening curve.
