    • A self-aligning valve assembly and a valve plug therefor includes an elastomeric valve plug having an annular outer sealing portion with an annular sealing surface for sealing a drain hole valve seating of a receptacle. A central mounting portion is secured to a pair of telescoped tubes. A flexible diaphragm with a circular convoluted fold integrally connects the mounting portion and the outer sealing portion, and is capable of yielding to permit radial and/or tilting displacement of the outer sealing portion relative to the central mounting portion of the plug to accommodate limited misalignment between the valve tubes and the drain hole.

    • A coupling device includes male and female telescoping members that are inserted into a fluid carrying hose or conduit. The coupling device includes an O-ring for providing fluid tight seal and a frangible locking ring that will separate when oppositely directed forces exceed a predetermined threshold. The locking ring includes a split so that it can be compressed to a smaller diameter for installation and, in the preferred embodiment, a plurality of frangible radial tabs. In an alternative embodiment, the ring may have a radially extending flange with a parting groove at the juncture of the ring and flange. One of the coupling device members includes a groove that holds the ring and the other member includes a groove that receives the radial tabs or flange.

    • A field sequential color shutter display system including a light source emitting light rays having substantially first and second different primary colors. First and second light polarizing filters are included. The filters are aligned in optical communication with the source. Each filter includes a color selective polarizing filter having substantially orthogonally oriented absorption axes.     • A waste tank cleaning system in a preferred embodiment includes a flowmeter interposed in the line carrying cleaning fluid to the tank. A pair of solenoid valves are controlled by an electronic counter coupled to the flowmeter. In response to predetermined volumetric flows of fluid, the solenoid valves alternatively deliver fluid to a hydraulically operated drain valve and to a spray/rinse outlet in the waste tank. In one alternative embodiment, a flowmeter is mechanically coupled to a valve structure which alternatively applies fluid to the drain valve and to a spray/rinse outlet in the tank, directly. In other embodiments, the volume of flow can be determined by liquid level sensors in the tank and a predetermined cleaning sequence can be carried out based on the signals sent by the sensors. Power can be furnished by a rechargeable power supply.

    • This invention relates to an aircraft toilet drain assembly of the type utilizing a drain plug, intended to prevent a maintenance operator from failing to replace the drain plug at the completion of after-flight servicing. The assembly is installed at the end of an outlet tube from a toilet holding tank in a position adjacent an access opening in the aircraft, which is closed in flight by an access panel. The assembly includes an outlet nipple, secured to the outlet tube, and a releasable cover mountable on the end of the nipple. A handle mounted on the cover is selectively movable between an extended position in which it obstructs the access opening to prevent the access panel from being closed and a depressed condition in which the access panel can be closed. An interlock responsive to the presence of the drain plug in the nipple locks the handle in its extended position unless a drain plug is present. The toilet drain assembly thus ensures that the aircraft access panel cannot be closed and the aircraft cleared for flight, unless a drain plug has been installed.

An image is presented to a viewer that appears to be at infinity and is indistinguishable from the exterior scene as viewed from that vantage point. In alternative embodiments, the display unit can utilize more than one prism with one or more combiner elements to increase the vertical height of the viewed image of the CRT while dramatically reducing the vertical space required for the display unit in an instrument panel.
