摘要： A field sequential color head-up display system includes image generating means including a source of light of at least two different wavelengths. A color selective polarizing filter having first and second absorption axes, enables the passage of linearly polarized light of first and second colors. Optical retardation imposed by variable optical retarding means determines the color of the light transmitted by circular polarizing means. Image collimating means apply a generated image of selected colors to an image combiner placed in the line of sight between an observer and a scene, thereby superimposing a generated image over the scene visible to the observer. Holographic elements tuned to the selected wavelengths improve reflection of those wavelengths to the observer.

First and second light polarizing filters are included. The filters are aligned in optical communication with the source. Each filter includes a color selective polarizing filter having substantially orthogonally oriented absorption axes. The first absorption axis of each light polarizing filter passes linearly polarized light of the first color and a uniform first polarization. The second absorption axis of each light polarizing filter passes linearly polarized light of both the first and second colors and a uniform second polarization. Variable optical retarding filters are disposed between the first and second light polarizing filters. Switching filters are in communication with the variable optical retarding filters to selectively provide first and second switching states to produce respective first and second amounts of optical retardation to develop, over a relatively broad range of viewing angles, a light output through the second light polarizing filter of either the first color, or, a composite light output containing both the first color, having both the first and second polarizations, and the second color having only the second polarization.

摘要： A waste tank cleaning system in a preferred embodiment includes a flowmeter interposed in the line carrying cleaning fluid to the tank. A pair of solenoid valves are controlled by an electronic counter coupled to the flowmeter. In response to predetermined volumetric flows of fluid, the solenoid valves alternatively deliver fluid to a hydraulically operated drain valve and to a spray/rinse outlet in the waste tank. In one alternative embodiment, a flowmeter is mechanically coupled to a valve structure which alternatively applies fluid to the drain valve and to a spray/rinse outlet in the tank, directly. In other embodiments, the volume of flow can be determined by liquid level sensors in the tank and a predetermined cleaning sequence can be carried out based on the signals sent by the sensors. Power can be furnished by a rechargeable power supply.

The assembly is installed at the end of an outlet tube from a toilet holding tank in a position adjacent an access opening in the aircraft, which is closed in flight by an access panel. The assembly includes an outlet nipple, secured to the outlet tube, and a releasable cover mountable on the end of the nipple. A handle mounted on the cover is selectively movable between an extended position in which it obstructs the access opening to prevent the access panel from being closed and a depressed condition in which the access panel can be closed. An interlock responsive to the presence of the drain plug in the nipple locks the handle in its extended position unless a drain plug is present. The toilet drain assembly thus ensures that the aircraft access panel cannot be closed and the aircraft cleared for flight, unless a drain plug has been installed.
