    • A transfer tail assembly for use with a conveyor assembly that creates a reduced radius transition from the upper run to the lower run of a continuous conveyor belt used with the conveyor assembly. The transfer tail assembly includes a stationary nose bar over which the continuous conveyor belt passes at the end of the conveyor assembly. The nose bar is supported at the end of the conveyor assembly by a series of support brackets mounted to a cross support. Each of the support brackets is formed from a wear resistant material and contacts the conveyor belt as the conveyor belt passes around the transfer tail assembly. The nose bar, support brackets and cross support are mounted within the tail assembly without the use of any external connectors and thus require no tooling to assemble and disassemble.

    • A conveyor assembly has a continuous conveyor belt driven between a pair of spaced side frame members by a center drive assembly having a pair of spaced side plates connected to the side frame members. A drive roller arrangement is driven by a drive motor arrangement coupled to the drive roller arrangement to move the conveyor belt. A freely rotatable guide roller arrangement is slidably mounted between the side frame members and the side plates between an operating position in which the conveyor belt passes around the guide roller assembly before engaging the drive roller arrangement, and a cleaning position in which the guide roller arrangement is slidably removable away from the side frame members and the side plates and out of engagement with the conveyor belt. The guard structure is retained in the operating position by elongated retaining pins that are pushed into a frictional engagement with the side plates, the guide roller arrangement and the guard structure, and removed to the cleaning position by pulling the retaining pins out of the frictional engagement. Each of the guard structures includes a roller adjustment device that can be selectively operated to adjust the orientation of the guide roller assembly between the spaced side frame members of the conveyor assembly.

    • An apparatus for dispensing articles from a stack onto a moving conveyor. The apparatus includes a supporting structure or frame that supports a stack of articles and the supporting structure is canted at an angle of about 15.degree. to 25.degree. from the vertical. The supporting structure is generally L-shaped in cross section, having a pair of walls located generally normal to each other, while the opposite sides of the supporting structure are open so that the articles can be loaded into the supporting structure through the open sides. The lowermost article in the stack is supported on an L-shaped base, so that only peripheral portions of adjacent side edges of the lowermost article are supported. A pusher plate is mounted for sliding movement relative to the supporting structure and acts to push the lowermost article from the stack and the dispensed article will then fall onto the moving conveyor below. A stripper is mounted to engage the second lowermost article in the stack to prevent that article from being displaced from the supporting structure as the lowermost article is pushed from the stack.

    • An improved articulated link construction used in a conveyor belt tracking mechanism. The conveyor includes a frame having a pair of spaced parallel side rails that support a bed plate and an endless conveyor belt is supported on the bed plate. A spindle assembly includes a pair of side members that are mounted for sliding movement with respect to the side rails and a spindle is journaled between the side members. A plate-like link extends transversely of the spindle assembly and the ends of the link are pivoted to the side members. Each pivotal connection includes a vertical bolt that extends through an opening in the respective side member and a bushing is threaded on the bolt and is received within an oversized opening in the link. A spring washer is interposed between the head of the bushing and the link, and maintains the link in snug contact with the side rails yet permits pivotal movement of the link relative to the side members to enable the side members to be moved relative to each other to track the belt.

    • A high speed apparatus for selectively discharging articles from a conveyor system, including a conveyor to convey the articles in a path of travel. A rotatable discharge member is mounted for rotation above the conveyor and includes a plurality of parallel grooves that extend longitudinally of the path of travel. Each article, as it moves along the conveyor, enters and is stopped within one of the grooves, and the discharge member is then rotated by a pair of cooperating drive units to discharge the article laterally from the conveyor. A first of the drive units includes a fluid cylinder that operates to rotate the discharge member through an arc that is less than the arc between adjacent grooves, and the second drive unit includes a cam mechanism which completes the indexing of the discharge member while the first drive unit is returned to its original position. A locking mechanism can be incorporated with the second drive unit to lock the discharge member in the indexed position.

    • A high speed apparatus for stacking articles in a side by side relation and transfering the stack to a conveyor. Each article is fed onto a pair of spaced support members and against a movable backstop to form a stack of side by side articles. When a stack of desired size has been formed, the support members are pivoted to a release position and the stack is lowered to a discharge station. When the stack is lowered sufficiently to clear the backstop, the backstop is returned to its original position, and as the stack is lowered to a position beneath the release support members, the support members are returned to their supporting position. The backstop and support members are then in a ready position to form a second stack before the first stack reaches the discharge station. The first stack is then discharged to a main conveyor while a second stack is formed at the stacking station.

    • An apparatus for vertically stacking and storing articles. The apparatus includes, in series, a stacking station, at least one storage storage, and an unloading station. A discharge conveyor is disposed beneath the stations. A stacking carriage is mounted for vertical movement in the stacking station, and with the carriage in an upper position, each article is individually fed onto the carriage and supported by a pair of supports that are movable between an inner supporting position and a release position. After each article is fed to the stacking carriage, the carriage is lowered in increments until the desired number of superimposed articles are applied to the carriage to form a stack. The carriage is then lowered to deposit the stack on the discharge conveyor, and the stack can then be conveyed through the storage stations directly to the unloading station, if there is no preceding stack at the unloading station, or alternately, the stack can be held in the storage stations until the unloading station is clear.
