    • There is disclosed an apparatus for the determination of a trace amount of an analyte substance or organism. A substrate solution is brought into contact with a small diameter tube which has captured, at least on its inner surface, a trace amount of an analyte substance or organism. The trace amount has the ability to change the pH of the substrate solution. A pH change following a reaction of a substrate in the substrate solution in the small diameter tube is measured; the apparatus has a cuvette having an inlet and an outlet for the substrate solution, a pH electrode accomodated in the cuvette, a pump for supplying the substrate solution in the cuvette, a positioning structure for positioning, in the cuvette, the small diameter tube with the pH sensitive plane of the pH electrode and spacing the surface and the plane at 1 mm or below from each other, and a sealing structure for maintaining a formed by the outer surface of the small diameter tube accommodated in the cuvette and the inner surface of the cuvette at liquid tight condition.

    • A method for assaying a substance is provided in which an optical image is obtained from spots of light emitted from a chemiluminescent material capable of undergoing a luminescent reaction. The method comprises: (a) a step of distributing solid particles on the surface of a support, the solid particles having a diameter of not more than 100 .mu.m and on its surface carrying an antibody being able to catch a catalyst previously bound to the second antibody (or its analogue, such as Fab') through binding an antigen, and the support being permeable to a liquid and capable of absorbing light emitted from chemiluminescent material; (b) a step of immersing the support into a solution containing the chemiluminescent material to bring the catalyst over the support into contact with the chemiluminescent material to cause luminescent reactions including fluorescence; (c) a step of two-dimensionally picking up an optical image including an image formed by luminescence and fluorescence, and converting it into electric signals; (d) a step of storing the measured two-dimensional image data of the optical image in a image processing device; and (e) a step of manipulating the stored signals to form a new image in the same processing device.

    • The present invention provides a chemiluminescence measuring apparatus which is small in size and high in operability and has a function of performing accurate quantitative analysis and the like. The apparatus includes at least a box-like housing having an opening, a cover provided on a top surface of the housing and having a through hole for introducing a first detachable vessel into the inner space of the housing, a holder having a concave portion and enclosing the opening of the housing, the hollow chamber having an opening at a side wall thereof and partially housing a second vessel, a photo-sensing unit for detecting luminescence from the second vessel via the through hole of the hollow chamber, and a shutter mechanism for intermittently cutting optical path between the photo-sensing unit and the second vessel. Particularly, the shutter mechanism includes a rotatable hollow chamber partially housing the vessel, provided in the hollow chamber and having an opening at a side wall thereof, and a driving motor rotating the rotatable hollow chamber.
