    • The activity of a tellurium-free metal oxide catalyst used for ammoxidation of organic compounds at a temperature of from 300.degree. C. to 600.degree. C. is improved in the presence of (a) elemental tellurium or a tellurium compound which is in contact with said catalyst or in the presence of (a) elemental tellurium or a tellurium compound and (b) a molybdenum compound which are in contact with said catalyst. This activity improvement process can be applied to both the fresh catalysts and the spent catalyst having a deteriorated activity. The above described component (a) is preferably composed of a tellurium containing solid to be used in a state of a dry physical mixture with said catalyst. The above described components (a) and (b) are preferably composed of a tellurium containing solid and a molybdenum containing solid respectively or a tellurium-molybdenum containing solid to be used in a state of a dry physical mixture with said catalyst.The tellurium containing solid, the molybdenum containing solid or the tellurium-molybdenum containing solid may be at least a member selected from the following group:(1) A solid wherein a tellurium component and/or a molybdenum component is supported or unsupported on an inert carrier,(2) A solid wherein a tellurium component and/or a molybdenum component is added to a metal oxide catalyst (fresh or spent) and/or said metal oxide catalyst is enriched with the tellurium component and/or the molybdenum component, and(3) A solid composed of a compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, La, Ce, V, Nb, Cr, W, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, B, Al, Ga, Ge, Sn, Pb, P, AS, Sb, Bi, S and Se in addition to tellurium, molybdenum or tellurium and molybdenum, or a mixture of these compounds, supported or unsupported on an inert carrier.The present invention is advantageously applied to ammoxidation in a fluidized bed.

    • A process for improving the activity of tellurium containing metal oxide catalysts useful as catalysts for oxidation, ammoxidation or oxidative dehydrogenation of organic compounds by heating the catalysts together with a tellurium containing solid and an optional molybdenum containing solid to a temperature up to about 900.degree. C. in a gaseous atmosphere. The process can be effectively applied to deteriorated or spent catalysts, the activity of which has been deteriorated due to use for a long period of time. The tellurium containing solid used as an activity improving agent is elemental tellurium and the molybdenum containing solid is selected from the group consisting of (i) a molybdenum compound, (ii) at least one molybdenum compound supported on an inert carrier, and (iii) a molybdenum enriched catalyst prepared by adding a Mo component to a metal oxide catalyst (which may be a fresh catalyst or a deteriorated catalyst). In a particularly preferred embodiment, the process for improving the activity according to the present invention can be carried out by contacting the deteriorated tellurium containing metal oxide catalyst with the elemental tellurium and optional molybdenum-containing solid in a fluidized-bed. More preferably, the contact is carried out during the oxidation, ammoxidation or oxidative dehydrogenation reaction.

    • A process for improving the activity of tellurium containing metal oxide catalysts useful as catalysts for oxidation, ammoxidation or oxidative dehydrogenation of organic compounds by heating the catalysts together with an activity-improving agent to a temperature up to about 900.degree. C. in a gaseous atmosphere. The process can be effectively applied to deteriorated or spent catalysts, the activity of which has been deteriorated due to use for a long period of time. The activity improviding agent is selected from the group consisting of(i) a tellurium-molybdenum compound unsupported or supported on an inert carrier;(ii) a dry mixture of a tellurium compound and a molybdenum containing material selected from the group consisting of a molybdenum compound, a molybdenum enriched catalyst and a molybdenum compound supported on an inert carrier;(iii) a dry mixture of a tellurium enriched catalyst and a molybdenum compound unsupported or supported on an inert carrier; and(iv) a dry mixture of a tellurium compound supported on an inert carrier and a molybdenum containing material selected from the group consisting of a molybdenum compound, a molybdenum enriched catalyst and a molybdenum compound supported on an inert carrier. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the process according to the present invention can be carried out by contacting the tellurium containing metal oxide catalysts with the activity-improving agent in a fluidized-bed. More preferably, the contact is carried out during the oxidation, ammoxidation or oxidative hydrogenation reaction.

    • A regeneration process for tellurium-containing metal oxide catalysts used in the process for oxidation, ammoxidation or oxidative dehydrogenation of organic compounds at a temperature of about 300.degree. C. to about 600.degree. C. The process can be effectively applied to such catalysts which have become partially deactivated during the reaction. According to the present process, the deactivated catalyst is regenerated at the reaction temperature under a non-reductive atompshere by contacting the deactivated catalyst with a tellurium-enriched metal oxide catalyst having a tellurium content higher than that of a fresh metal oxide catalyst used in the reaction, or by contacting the deactivated catalyst at the reaction temperature with a tellurium-molybdenum-enriched catalyst system selected from the group consisting of (i) a physical blend of a tellurium-enriched catalyst and a molybdenum-enriched catalyst and (ii) a tellurium-molybdenum-enriched catalyst, the tellurium and molybdenum contents being higher than those of the fresh metal oxide catalyst used in the reaction. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the process is applied to tellurium-containing metal oxide catalysts in a fluidized bed. More preferably, the process is carried out during the oxidation, ammoxidation or oxidative dehydrogenation reaction.
