    • Safety as well as the minimum driving performance is secured by preventing abrupt down-shifting if a line pressure valve or a primary pressure control valve fails. A line pressure path connected to an oil pump is connected with a line pressure control valve. A first primary pressure path branched from the line pressure path is connected with a hydraulic fluid chamber through a fail-safe valve, and a secondary pressure path branched from the line pressure path is connected to a hydraulic fluid chamber. The line pressure control valve is connected with a second primary pressure path in communication with a hydraulic fluid chamber, and this secondary primary pressure path is provided with a primary pressure control valve and a limiter valve. When the line pressure control valve and the primary pressure control valve fail and excess line pressure or primary pressure is output, the pressure in the hydraulic fluid chamber is reduced by the fail-safe valve, so that the pressure in the hydraulic fluid chamber is reduced by the limiter valve.

    • In a control apparatus for a continuously variable transmission, when the difference between a target transmission gear ratio calculated immediately after switching the control mode from a manual shift mode to an automatic shift mode and a current transmission gear ratio (that is, a fixed transmission gear ratio of the transmission gear stage selected in the manual shift mode immediately before the switching) is greater than or equal to a set value, a shift control unit sets a temporary target transmission gear ratio between the target transmission gear ratio and the current transmission gear ratio. If a temporary target transmission gear ratio is set, the shift control unit causes the transmission gear ratio obtained during transition of mode from the manual shift mode to the automatic shift mode to match the target transmission gear ratio stepwise via the temporary target transmission gear ratio.

    • A shift control apparatus for a continuously variable transmission has a target primary pressure setting unit provided a target primary pressure according to a speed ratio deviation between an actual speed ratio and a target speed ratio; a shift control valve for regulating flow rate of hydraulic oil supplied to the primary cylinder by changing an opening area of the shift control valve according to current supplied to an electromagnetic coil; a primary pressure detecting unit; and a control unit for controlling the speed ratio by correcting a basic current set to be based upon the target primary pressure and supplied to the electromagnetic coil by feeding back the primary pressure detected by the primary pressure detecting unit, so as to have an excellent shift feeling, being able to decrease a fuel consumption by reducing the load of a pump and by quickly shifting to an optimum speed ratio.
