    • A display device includes a data acquiring unit for acquiring data, a display unit for displaying data acquired by said data acquiring unit, an operation unit for operating the display device, a controller for controlling the display device, a communication unit for communicating with other display devices, and a coupling unit for structurally coupling the display device with other display devices with which communication is made by the communication unit. Accordingly, a plurality of display devices capable of individually operating can be coupled or decoupled in a flexible manner, and display contents can be updated to be displayed such that they are consistent with each other even if the display devices are coupled or decoupled.

    • In an image processing apparatus or a method for expressing a halftone-including original image with binary black-and-white pixels and reproducing the original image in the form of a binary-coded output, the feature of the present invention resides in detecting, relative to each of the pixel units obtained by scanning and sampling the original image, a first average density level representative of the average density level of the pixel unit within a first specific reference pixel region composed of pixel unit groups adjacent to the subject pixel unit on the left and right. A second average density level represents of the average density level of the pixel unit within a second specific reference pixel region composed of a pixel unit group adjacent to the first specific reference pixel region from above. The density level of the subject pixel unit is detected in accordance with the first and second average density levels, thereby enabling correction of the gradation.

    • The shading correction is performed with respect to a signal "A" indicative of the image density read by an optical read device in accordance with a reference signal "B". Both the signals "A" and "B" consist of n bits. An inputted signal having an initial value "A" is doubled by a multiplier when A=B and B.noteq.0. A subtracter subtracts the reference signal "B" from a signal "X" outputted from the multiplier and discriminates whether or not a signal "X-B" is negative. An S/P conversion register doubles an integrated value "S" having an initial value "0" and changes the integrated value from "S" to "2S" when the signal "X-B" is negative. In contrast, when the signal "X-B" is not negative the S/P conversion register adds "1" to "2S" and changes the integrated value from "S" to "2S+1". The signal "X" outputted from the multiplier is again inputted into the multiplier when the signal "X-B" is negative. Alternatively, the multiplier receives the signal "X-B" outputted from the subtracter when the signal "X-B" is not negative. The, above procedure is repeated n times. The last integrated value outputted from the S/P conversion register is equal to or approximately equal to a value obtained by an expression "S=A(2.sup.n -1)/B", and therefore, the former can be regarded as a shading correction signal.
