    • A system for providing architecture and signaling, by which a mobile communications device—active within a WLAN environment—may be effectively and efficiently interfaced with a CDMA2000 network to provide cooperative and concurrent VoIP and over-the-air (OTA) communications, is disclosed. A wireless communications system comprises a mobile station, operating in a wireless LAN environment. The mobile station access the Internet through a wireless LAN access point. The area is also provided service by a CDMA2000-based over-the-air network. A provisioning server, within the CDMA2000-based network, is accessible via the Internet. A mobile switching center is also within the CDMA2000-based network. An interface construct is communicatively coupled to the mobile switching center and to the wireless LAN, and is adapted to facilitate call traffic between the CDMA2000 network and the mobile station over the wireless LAN.

    • A base station for communicating with mobile stations in a coverage area of a wireless network. The base station comprises a first transmit antenna, a second transmit antenna, and an RF transceiver for generating an outgoing RF signal to be transmitted via the first and second transmit antennas to the mobile stations. The base station also comprises a switch coupling the RF transceiver to the first and second transmit antennas. The switch alternately directs the outgoing RF signal to the first transmit antenna during a first portion of a forward channel data frame and directs the outgoing RF signal to the second transmit antenna during a remaining portion of the forward channel data frame.

    • A base station for use in a 1xEV-DV/DO wireless network that communicates with mobile stations in its coverage area. The base station comprises a handoff controller for receiving a Handoff Request message from a first mobile station attempting to hand off to the base station. In response to receipt of the Handoff Request message, the handoff controller determines whether the available resources in the base station exceed a predetermined minimum threshold. If the available resources exceed the predetermined minimum threshold, the handoff controller allows the first mobile station to be handed off to the base station. Otherwise, the handoff controller prevents the first mobile station from being handed off to the base station.
