    • The present invention provides an LCD and method of manufacture of a TFT array panel of an LCD that efficiently utilizes all light emitted from a backlight unit to display images without light loss. In an exemplary embodiment, an LCD having a transmission area and a reflection area includes a first substrate, a reflection element formed on the first substrate corresponding to the reflection area, a TFT formed on the first substrate, a pixel electrode having a transparent electrode formed on the TFT and a reflective electrode that overlies the transparent electrode and is formed at the reflection area, a second substrate, an optical retardation layer formed on the second substrate causes a phase difference between light passing through the transmission area and the reflection area, and a common electrode formed on the optical retardation layer.

A thin film transistor array panel is provided, which includes: gate lines formed on an insulating substrate; data lines insulated from the gate lines and intersecting the gate lines; first pixel electrodes disposed on pixel areas defined by intersections of the gate lines and the data lines; first thin film transistors, each having three terminals connected to one of the gate lines, one of the data lines, and one of the first pixel electrodes; second pixel electrodes disposed on the pixel areas and capacitively coupled to the first pixel electrodes; and second thin film transistors, each having three terminals connected to a previous gate line, a storage electrode line or one of the data lines, and one of the second pixel electrodes.

    • Disclosed is a display device together with a method of modifying image signals. The display device includes a plurality of pixels with first and second pixels, and an image signal modifier for generating a modified image signal by modifying the input image signal of the first pixel based on the previous image signal of the first pixel and the input image signal of the second pixel. Dynamic capacitance compensation is made for a pixel where the gray variation thereof with respect to the pixels neighboring thereto is low, but over-compensation that is greater than the dynamic capacitance compensation is made for a pixel where the gray variation thereof with respect to the pixel neighbors is high, thereby decreasing the blurring, and preventing the image quality from being deteriorated.

    • A data processor receives sets of input image data having respective input grays and outputs sets of output image data having respective output grays. Each set of output image data corresponds to one of the plurality of sets of input image data and have more image data than each set of the input image data. A data driver supplies the pixels with data voltages corresponding to the output image data supplied from the data processor. A set of output grays corresponding to a set of input grays are selected from sets of grays, each set of grays giving an average front transmittance substantially equal to an average front transmittance of the set of input grays. The sets of output grays generate the closest average lateral gamma curve generated by the sets of grays relative to an average front gamma curve generated by the input grays.
