    • It is an object of the present invention to provide a cardiovascular information measurement system capable of performing an accurate blood pressure measurement and calculating an accurate cardiovascular index in consideration of the pulsation of a blood vessel wall. To achieve this object, the cardiovascular information measurement system includes ultrasonic transducer groups (4a, 4b) for simultaneously detecting sectional shapes (3a, 3b) of two arterial portions, a cross-sectional area calculation unit (5) for calculating cross-sectional areas of the two arterial portions on the basis of the detected sectional shapes, a flow velocity calculation unit (6) for calculating an average blood flow velocity in an artery on the basis of the cross-sectional areas calculated by the cross-sectional area calculation unit (5), a pulse wave velocity calculation unit (7) for calculating a pulse wave propagation velocity between the two arterial portions in accordance with time changes in the detected sectional shapes of the two arterial portions, a relative blood pressure calculation unit (8) for calculating a relative blood pressure value to a reference blood pressure value obtained in a specific time phase, on the basis of the calculated blood flow velocity and the calculated pulse wave propagation velocity, and an absolute blood pressure calculation unit (10) for calculating an absolute blood pressure value on the basis of the relative blood pressure value and the reference blood pressure value obtained in the specific time phase and measured in advance.

    • A transdermal drug administration device which comprises a patch that is provided with: a donor gel in which a medical agent is sealed; a reference gel; a first electrode that is connected to the donor gel; and a second electrode that is connected to the reference gel. When the patch is applied to the skin, a direct current is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode at a predetermined cycle and an alternating current is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode during the periods when a direct current is not applied, thereby obtaining the capacitance. The application state of the patch is determined based on the thus-obtained capacitance.

    • A sensorless magnetic bearing type blood pump apparatus includes a blood pump and a control mechanism. The blood pump has electromagnets for rotating a rotating body in a non-contact condition, and a hydrodynamic bearing section for rotating the rotating body in a non-contact condition when operation of the electromagnets is stopped. The apparatus is devoid of any sensors for determining the position of the rotating body. The control mechanism includes a pulse width modulation type electromagnet driving unit, a carrier component measuring unit for measuring carrier components of voltage and current in the driving unit, a modulation factor calculating unit which calculates a modulation factor using the carrier wave data, and a bearing mode changing-over mechanism for effecting change-over from the magnetic bearing mode to the hydrodynamic bearing mode when the calculated modulation factor is outside a predetermined range and for returning to the magnetic bearing mode after the change-over.
