    • An antenna for portable radiotelephones including an antenna element and antenna holder. The antenna element is covered by a non-conductive cover except for the tip and base ends which respectively have a cap and a sleeve, both made of conductive materials thereon. The antenna holder is made of conductive materials, fixed in a case of the telephone and is connected to a matching device. The antenna holder includes a fastening section and an engaging section and holds therein the antenna element so the antenna element can be pulled outside of and pushed back into the case. The fastening section engages with the cap of the antenna element when the antenna element is pulled outside of the case. Thus, the antenna element can be kept in a state of electrical continuity with the antenna holder, which is electrically connected to the matching device, at all times. That is, the antenna element of the present invention is responsive to call signals not only when the antenna element is pulled outside of the case, but also when it is pushed back into the case.

    • An improved transmitting and receiving antenna for a portable radiotelephone with an antenna element which can be accommodated inside of the case of the portable radiotelephone, compensating for the drop in reception sensitivity that occurs when the antenna element is located inside of the case. The rod-shaped antenna element freely insertable into and removable from the case, and electrically connected to an antenna retaining mechanism both when the antenna element is retracted and extended. Thus, the antenna element functions even when it is located inside of the case. Moreover, an auxiliary antenna element is connected to the antenna element when the latter is located inside the case. The inductive reactance component of the auxiliary antenna element compensates for deterioration of the Standing Wave Ratio caused by the increased stray capacity resulting from the antenna element being located of inside the case. As a result, an adequate reception sensitivity can be maintained, and when the portable radiotelephone is not in use, the antenna element is withdrawn into the case so as not to create a nuisance; while incoming calls can still be responded to.

    • In order to provide a broad-band non-grounded type ultrashort-wave antenna which has sufficiently high sensitivity characteristics and broad-band VSWR characteristics even in an expanded frequency band, is able to use a small-diameter antenna element, is light in weight and simple in structure, and can be manufactured inexpensively, an antenna element parallel resonance part, that is formed by the inductance and distributed capacitance of the rod-form antenna element which has an electrical length close to lambda/2 or an integral multiple of lambda/2, and a metal member parallel resonance part, that is formed by the electrostatic capacitance between first and second metal members which are installed parallel to each other and have respective electrical lengths of lambda/4 and the inductance of the first metal member, are electrostatically coupled by the stray capacity that exists between the antenna element and an electrostatic coupling piece projected from the second metal member, thus forming a double-tuned circuit. The antenna thus constructed has the VSWR characteristics of a twin-peak form, thus being suitable for a broader frequency trend and having a desired gain for the entire frequency band used.

    • A three-wave vehicle antenna in which an insulating pipe is connected to the tip of a conducting pipe, and an MT wave antenna element and a coaxial MT wave matching device are housed in the insulating pipe. One end of the coaxial MT wave feeder cable is connected to the matching device and the other end is guided through the conductive pipe which is designed to be used as an AM/FM antenna. The coaxial MT wave feeder cable uses polytetrafluoroethylene, at least for the external insulation member, for covering the outer conductor. With this arrangement it is possible for the three-wave vehicle antenna to check decreases in sensitivity of the AM/FM wave antenna element, since it is feasible to lower the stray capacity between the conductive pipe and the outer conductor of the coaxial MT wave feeder cable without enlarging the diameter of the conductor pipe.

The length of the bottom portion 12a of the connecting member 12 is set to a length such that when the rod-shaped antenna 10 is retracted within the case 50, the bottom portion 12a of the connecting member 12 passes through the helical coil 12 over the entire length thereof, severing electrical coupling between the helical antenna 20 and the rod-shaped antenna 10.
