摘要： This invention provides an optical filter comprises of a pair of solid polymer films, wherein (1) a first solid polymer film has a planar alignment of a cholesteric liquid crystal structure of either clockwise or counterclockwise helical structure, which alignment allows the light of a specified wavelength to be scattered selectively, and (2) a second solid polymer film has a planar alignment of a cholesteric liquid crystal structure of a helical structure whose helical direction is the opposite to that of the first solid polymer film, which alignment allows the light at the specified wavelength to be scattered selectively, wherein the optical axes of the first and second solid polymer films are made substantially parallel to each other.This invention also provides preparation methods of an optical filter mentioned above.

摘要： 37 A liquid crystal display device is provided which comprises a cell unit having a pair of optically transparent substrates each having an optically transparent electrode layer and an alignent layer for liquid crystal formed in this order on one side of the substrate. The paired substrates is in spaced relation with each other and is arranged such that the respective alignment layers are facing each other. A liquid crystal is contained in the space between the paired substrates. The alignment layers are made of a polymer material having both a ring structure and a substituted group at side chains thereof and are subjected to rubbing treatment. The use of the alignment layers ensures a great pretilt angle for liquid crystal molecules.

摘要： A projection type liquid crystal display device for transmitting three color light beams of RGB through three TN type liquid crystal panels and projecting the transmitted light beams optimizes the RGB transmission characteristics by changing the crossing angles of the polarization axes of a polarizer and an analyzer with respect to the orientation directions of the respective RGB TN cells in specified directions, and also a projection type liquid crystal display device for transmitting a light beam through a TN type liquid crystal panel and projecting the transmitted light beam effects temperature-compensation of the transmission characteristics of the liquid crystal panels by controlling the crossing angle of the polarization axes of a polarizer and an analyzer. Both projection type liquid crystal display devices are relatively simple in the construction, are able to optimize the transmission characteristics of the liquid crystal panels, and have excellent properties in the contrast and in the color reproducibility.

摘要： A backlight system (30) includes a light emitting section (31) and an imaging optical system. The imaging optical system includes a first microlens array (MLA1) and a second microlens array (MLA2). The lenses (1A) separates the beams of light emitted from the light emitting section (31) by RGB, and causes them to be converged at a pitch same as a pitch at which the picture elements are arrayed. The lenses (2A) are provided in one-to-one correspondence to the picture elements such that the lenses (2A) have their respective focal points at positions onto which beams of light having passed through the lenses (1A) are converged. The lenses (2A) thus deflect the beams of light which have passed through the lenses (1A) in a substantially vertical direction with respect to the display surface of the liquid crystal panel.

摘要： The present invention provides a liquid crystal display panel and a liquid crystal display device which have a high response speed. The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display panel including a first substrate and a second substrate disposed to face each other, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal molecule having positive dielectric anisotropy; the liquid crystal molecule is aligned perpendicularly to a surface of the first substrate when no voltage is applied; the first substrate includes a signal line, a scanning line, a first electrode to which an image signal is provided through the signal line, and a second electrode; the first electrode includes a first comb-tooth portion; the second electrode includes a second comb-tooth portion; the first comb-tooth portion and the second comb-tooth portion are disposed in the same layer to planarly face each other in a pixel; the second substrate includes a third electrode and a dielectric layer disposed on the liquid crystal layer side of the third electrode, the third electrode covering at least a display region; and the slowest rise response speed is not more than twice a rise response speed upon application of a maximum gradation voltage to the display panel to which no voltage has been applied.
