    • In an image forming apparatus using an optical sensor for detecting light reflection characteristics of a toner image fixed on a transfer material, occurrence of gloss unevenness in a printed image can be prevented. The image forming apparatus includes a first transfer material conveying path for normal printing, a second transfer material conveying path for image density control, a sensor contact member integral with the optical sensor and a transfer material supporting member contacting a transfer material rear surface in a position opposing the sensor contact member. At the time of normal printing, the sensor contact member and the transfer material supporting member are disposed in a spaced position against the transfer material, and at the time of image density control, the sensor contact member or the transfer material supporting member moves so that the sensor contact member and the transfer material supporting member contact the transfer material.

    • An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of photosensitive drums, a plurality of developing devices, an intermediate transfer medium, primary transfer members, and a secondary transfer member for transferring toner images onto a transfer material. A full-color mode and a monocolor mode are selectively carried out. The image forming apparatus also includes a CPU for adjusting the length of a non-image forming region, and an intermediate-transfer-medium movement controller. The CPU brings about a switching state in which an image forming region lies between a primary transfer position on the most downstream one of the photosensitive drums and a secondary transfer position and in which non-image forming regions simultaneously lie at the primary transfer position and at the secondary transfer position. The intermediate-transfer-medium movement controller switches between the full-color mode and the monocolor mode during the switching state.

    • An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member bearing a toner image, an endless rotatable transfer belt for transferring the toner image from the image bearing member to a transfer material, and a transfer device transferring the toner image from the image bearing member to the transfer belt. The transfer device includes a sheet member, one end of which is fixed and the other end of which comes in contact with an inner peripheral surface of the transfer belt, and a pressing member for pressing the sheet member to the transfer belt. In addition, a moving unit moves the pressing member in a moving direction of the transfer belt so that a contact state of the sheet member with respect to the transfer belt is changed.

    • The present invention provides an image forming apparatus having a space-saving configuration in a height direction wherein an optimal contact region between the intermediate transfer belt and the sheet member can always be secured despite repeated reductions and increases in pressure force. The image forming apparatus includes: a transfer device transferring a toner image to an endless rotatable transfer belt, the transfer device having a sheet member, one end of which is fixed and the other end of which contacts with an inner peripheral surface of the transfer belt; and a pressing member for pressing the sheet member to the transfer belt; and a moving unit moving the pressing member to a first pressing position where the pressing member presses the sheet member and a second pressing position which is located farther away from a part of the sheet member pressed by the pressing member than the first pressing position.
