    • A cell incubator having an observation unit to observe a cell incubation process comprises: a focus detecting unit to detect a focus position of an imaging optical system of the observation unit; an optimum focus selecting unit to select an optimum focus position based upon a plurality of images taken by moving the imaging optical system stepwise at a fine pitch along an optical axis direction from the focus position, based upon the focus position detected by the focus detecting unit; and a fluorescence observation unit to shoot a fluorescence image of the cells by moving the imaging optical system to the optimum focus position thus detected by the optimum focus selecting unit.

    • User's time and labor required for performing manipulations with respect to cells which exist in an incubation container, are reduced. To achieve the above, a cell observing apparatus includes an observation stage supporting an incubation container that houses cells, a micro imaging optical system forming, on an imaging device for micro imaging, an image of the cell in the incubation container disposed at an observing position of the observation stage, a macro imaging optical system forming, on an imaging device for macro imaging, an image of an area wider than that captured by the micro imaging optical system in the incubation container, and a controlling unit controlling an operation of a manipulation needle that manipulates the cells in the incubation container, in which the micro imaging optical system is disposed on a side facing the macro imaging optical system with the observation stage being located therebetween.

    • A cell picking support device, a display device and a culture container that can enhance work efficiency. An adapter fixes a well plate that holds cells cultured in a cell culture observation device. A control unit reads culture observation information that includes cell information and coordinate information, from a memory card that is fitted to an external memory I/F. A display unit is provided on a placing surface side of the well plate that is fixed by the adapter, and in response to control by the control unit, displays the cell information, read from the memory card, at display positions corresponding to positions on the bottom face of the well plate, as specified by the coordinate information. Embodiments can be used, for instance, as a cell picking support device that supports a picking operation that is performed in a clean bench.

    • A temperature-controlled room accommodates an incubation container incubating a sample and maintains the inside thereof in a predetermined environment condition. An imaging section generates data of a plurality of observing images. An image analyzing section performs an image analyzing process on the data of the plurality of observing images obtained by imaging the incubation container at different times. Image analyzing data generated by the image analyzing section includes morphological information which indicates incubation states of the samples and rate-of-change information regarding the morphological information. A search processing section conducts a search for the incubation container which meets the first searching condition and the second searching condition based on the image analyzing data.
