    • An image sensing apparatus that includes an image sensing portion outputting the image data of an image by shooting and that generates an output image based on the output data of the image sensing portion obtained in response to a predetermined shooting command has: a first correction portion which, based on the image data of a first image shot by the image sensing portion and the image data of a second image shot by the image sensing portion with an exposure time longer than the exposure time of the first image, performs position adjustment between the first and second images and then synthesizes the first and second images to generate the output image; a second correction portion which generates the output image by reducing noise in the first image without using the second image; and a correction control portion which executes selection processing to alternatively select one of the first and second correction portions based on a shooting condition set for shooting of the second image or based on the output data of the image sensing portion, and which makes the so selected correction portion generate the output image.

    • A distortion correction portion includes a distortion calculation portion which calculates a distortion based on a movement of an image sensing apparatus in the image sensing operation, a distortion adjustment value calculation portion which calculates a distortion adjustment value based on a generation situation of an input image, and a distortion correction processing portion which performs a distortion correction process for correcting the distortion in the input image based on the distortion and the distortion adjustment value. The distortion adjustment value calculation portion decreases the distortion adjustment value in accordance with a generation situation of the input image, so that the degree of the correction in the distortion correction process by the distortion correction processing portion is decreased.

    • A plurality of divided exposure images (first to fourth images) are obtained by dividing a normal exposure time. By an image matching method, a motion detection circuit calculates a plurality of cumulative total correlation values between different divided exposure images, and searches the plurality of cumulative total correlation values for the smallest cumulative total correlation value, thereby calculating a motion vector between the different divided exposure images. In addition, based on the level of the smallest cumulative total correlation value, the level of reliability B[i] indicating the accuracy of the motion vector is calculated. An image combining circuit uses the level of reliability B[i] as a mixture proportion. The image combining circuit positions the divided exposure images based on the motion vector, and combines the divided exposure images together one on top of another in mixture proportions (B[i]), so as to form one still image that suffers less from camera shake.
