    • A plasma display apparatus is provided. The plasma display apparatus includes a first substrate, a second substrate, first and second electrodes formed on the first substrate, and a sustain driver for applying a sustain pulse to at least one of the first and second electrodes. The sustain pulse applied to at least one of the first and second electrodes has intermediate pulses having two or more shape between the first and last pulses. According to the plasma display apparatus, pulses of various shapes are applied to a plasma display panel (PDP) in a sustain period so that it is possible to adaptively improve energy efficiency, a sustain voltage margin, and a brightness characteristic.

    • The present invention relates to a plasma display apparatus, and more particularly, to a driving method thereof. The plasma display apparatus includes a panel comprised of a first substrate and a second substrate bonded to each other, a first electrode and a second electrode formed on the upper substrate, and a sustain driver for applying sustain pulses to the first and second electrodes, wherein the sustain driver applies a sustain voltage between the first and second electrodes, and floats at least one of the first and second electrodes after the completion of a sustain discharge caused by the sustain voltage. In the plasma display apparatus and the driving method thereof, according to the present invention, at least one of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode is floated for a predetermined time after the completion of the sustain discharge. This floating state prevents wall charges that are generated during the sustain discharge from being accumulated and increases a discharge path of a plasma display apparatus using a space voltage, thereby improving afterimage characteristic and enhancing brightness and discharge efficiency.

According to the present invention, the plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel comprising a plurality of sustain electrode pairs wherein each of the sustain electrode pairs has a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, and a sustain waveform controller for controlling a rising time or a falling time of sustain waveforms supplied to at least one of the sustain electrode pairs according to a temperature of the plasma display panel. The sustain waveform controller controls a time corresponding to a time point at which a sustain discharge is generated, of the rising time and the falling time. The present invention improves a plasma display apparatus and driving method thereof. Accordingly, there is an effect in that erroneous discharge depending on a temperature of a plasma display panel can be prevented.
