    • Enantioseparation methods using chemical compounds which contain the chiral 9,11-substituted-10,11-dihydro-cinchonan skeleton (9,11-Subst.-DHC) and the precursors thereof with the 9-substituted cinchonan skeleton (9-Subst.-C) are described and discussed. The chiral compounds of the present invention are based on cinchonan derivatives containing amide structure elements which support effectively and co-operatively the enantioseparation of chiral acidic selectands involving also ion-pair and ion-exchange binding mechanism between the strong amino group of the selector and the acidic group of the selectand. The methods of enantioseparation of the present invention are related to stereoselective liquid-liquid and liquid-solid type extraction principles and fractionated crystallization employing cinchonan derivative type selectors. In one embodiment of the present invention the chiral selector is immobilized onto support material or is incorporated within a polymer or is part of a polymer used for liquid-solid enantioseparation techniques.

    • The present invention provides novel antimicrobial immobilized 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one/zinc oxide (BIT/ZnO) complexes useful as antimicrobial agents because of their resistance to being leached from the substrate to which they are attached. The present invention is also directed to methods for preparing the BIT/ZnO complexes, to BIT/ZnO complexes prepared by the novel methods, to methods for using the BIT/ZnO complexes to inhibit microbial growth or reduce the level of bacteria on the surface of a substrate, and to substrates protected to from microbial attack by being treated with the BIT/ZnO complexes. The present invention is further directed to compositions comprising 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one which has been immobilized with zinc oxide.

    • Highly concentrated, water-based dispersions of certain lipophilic and/or hydrophobic antimicrobially active materials are stabilized to a surprising degree by a surfactant combination including a nonionic acrylic graft copolymer surfactant and a alkoxylated polyarylphenol phosphate ester surfactant. The active materials may be present in dispersion concentrates of the present invention singly or in useful combinations. The active materials are selected from the group of fungicides and bactericides consisting of 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one; 2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one; 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one; 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one; pyrithione zinc; 3-iodo-2-propynyl butylcarbamate; 2-methylthio-4-ethylamino-6-tert-butylamino-s-triazine; and 3-(4-isopropylphenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea, and mixtures thereof. The dispersion concentrates may be efficiently shipped and stored, and subsequently diluted with water to produce less concentrated dispersions when desired. Even at relatively high concentrations, the dispersion compositions of the present invention can be stored for months or years without significant loss of stability.
