    • A shot blasting machine including a blast cabinet having at least one internal abrasive throwing wheel rotatably mounted therein and directly coupled to a driving motor mounted externally on one wall of the blast cabinet. The opposed wall of the blast cabinet has mounted thereon externally of the blast cabinet an abrasive delivery spout and funnel for the throwing wheel disposed immediately adjacent to the throwing wheel, so that the blast cabinet also functions as a hood for the throwing wheel. The machine may have a workpiece passage across the width of the blast cabinet; a workpiece passage along the length of the blast cabinet; a rotating table for supporting workpieces, the axis of rotation of the table being within the blast cabinet and the table being housed within an openable casing fitted to the blast cabinet; or a plurality of different workpiece passage configurations or supports.

    • A shot blasting module is adapted for communicating assembly with a blast cabinet module. The slot blasting module comprises a casing housing at least one hoodless abrasive throwing wheel assembly, preferably door mounted, an abrasive/contaminant separator, and a two-stage vertical conveyor. The conveyor is an endless belt with two parallel rows of buckets, one of which directs spent abrasive and contaminants delivered from the blast cabinet module into the shot blasting module into the separator, while the other row simultaneously delivers clean abrasive into a storage hopper from which it is directed to the throwing wheel assembly. A dust collector module is preferably combined with the shot blasting module and the blast cabinet module.

    • An abstract throwing wheel assembly comprises a throwing wheel having parallel annular side plates (29) joined by spacers with the facing surfaces of the side plates having angularly-spaced registering throwing blade locating slots (30) and throwing blades (20) with lateral rails or edges (22) for location in the slots. The side wheels slots are wider than is customary and contain central radially-extending projections (30c). The lateral rails or edges of the throwing blades are grooved (28) from the tips inwardly for at least part of their lengths. The throwing blades are located by interengagement between the sidewall projects and the rail or edge grooves of the blades. This reduces the surface contact between the blades and the side plates with consequent reduction in the accumulation of jamming abrasive during use. Throwing blade removal is thus facilitated. The wider slots remove the narrow radial flow of high velocity abrasive or shot between the slot walls and throwing blade side rails or edges which is customary thus reducing side plate, especially side plate rim, wear.
