    • An aircraft communications and item tracking system is described. The system includes an RFID reader and a communications device located at fixed locations within the aircraft, a plurality of passive RFID tags operable for association with items within the aircraft, and a distributed antenna system comprising a plurality of antenna units and a wireless distribution system. The wireless distribution system is communicatively coupled to an aircraft communications network. The antenna units are communicatively coupled to the wireless distribution system and disbursed about the aircraft such that the RFID tags within the aircraft may be activated by signals output by at least one of the antenna units. The RFID reader and communications device are communicatively coupled to the wireless distribution system. The distributed antenna system is operable for transmission and reception of signals associated with the RFID reader and RFID tags. The distributed antenna system is further operable for transmission and reception of signals associated with the communications device.

    • A method and associated wireless monitor and data analysis system are provided. The method includes installing one or more of a plurality of wireless monitors at respective locations onboard a complex system on which a wireless system of interest is installed or planned for installation. The method may then include by the plurality of wireless monitors, emulating the wireless system of interest, and recording data related to performance of the wireless system of interest at one or more recorded times over a plurality of operating conditions of the complex system. The method may also include by the plurality of wireless monitors, collecting data including the respective locations of the wireless monitors correlated with respective recorded data and recorded times. In this regard, the collected data for the plurality of wireless monitors may be retrievable for analysis of the wireless system of interest based thereon.

    • During a system reconfiguration, a selected column or column of wireless units, such as associated with airplane seats, are powered up. The first unit in the column detects a ground and begins a wireless identification process with an access point which allows the system to determine a corresponding physical location for each node's logical address. The first unit then closes a switch, which connects the ground to the next unit. As the next unit detects the ground on the line, such as a token line, the second unit communicates with the AP. This process continues sequentially down the column until the last unit is assigned a physical location/address. The next column of units can then be powered up and identified.

    • A system and method for communicating audio or video information using inductive magnetic coupling between first and second adjacent seats on a mobile platform. A transceiver is located on the first seat and receives signals from an in-flight entertainment (IFE) system on the mobile platform. The transceiver passes the data on to a transmitter subsystem that generates low power inductive magnetic energy which is received by a receiver subsystem located on the second seat. The low power inductive magnetic energy is converted to electrical signals at the second seat and the information is output to a receiver unit of the receiver subsystem on the second seat. The receiver unit generates an output signal that is applied to an audio jack associated with a personal control unit (PCU) located on the second seat. This system and method enables audio content to be transmitted from the first seat to the second seat in wireless fashion while video content is displayed on a video display unit at the first seat, without affecting the synchronization of the audio signals to the video signals. The low power nature of the inductive magnetic energy, and its rapid falloff with distance from the transmitter, allow channels to be reused at spaced apart seat locations within the mobile platform.
