    • A dot matrix line printer comprised of a main frame assembly and a shuttle frame assembly hinged thereto for limited pivotal movement around a horizontal hinge axis. The main frame assembly carries a paper drive subassembly and an adjustable platen subassembly. The shuttle frame assembly carries one or more hammer banks and a shuttle drive motor for shuttling each bank to move the hammers thereof along a print row extending across the width of the paper parallel to the front face of the platen. By pivoting the shuttle frame assembly up and away from the main assembly, ready access is afforded to the paper path for loading and to the hammer banks for servicing. Each hammer includes a hammer element mounted on the free ends of first and second spaced parallel leaf springs for linear movement toward and away from a paper to be printed upon. The parallel leaf springs are anchored at one end and biased to impact the hammer element against the paper. A magnet is provided for producing a magnetic force, via a path including a block of magnetic material sandwiched between the springs, to normally hold the hammer element in a retracted position against a pole pin. A coil wound on the pole pin is energized to null the magnetic field to permit the springs to propel the hammer element against the paper to print a dot thereon. The leaf springs are not relied on to define the magnetic field path through the hammer element, thus allowing springs of nonmagnetic material to be used thereby permitting optimization of their spring properties. A platen is mounted on leaf springs to enable the spacing between the platen and hammers to be varied while maintaining the essential perpendicularity between the platen front face and direction of hammer element movement.

    • A preconnectorized apparatus includes a housing and at least one F-style coaxial cable connector extending therefrom. Each connector has a connector body with a cable receiving end and an opposite forward end. A compression element coupled to the receiving end is movable between an unseated position and a seated position and is configured to secure a coaxial cable within the connector body when in the seated position. The connector includes a tubular inner contact post having a free end configured to be inserted into a prepared coaxial cable end. A receiving member positioned forward of the contact post is electrically connected to a circuit within the housing. The receiving member receives a center conductor of a coaxial cable inserted through the connector body cable receiving end and electrically connects the center conductor to the circuit.

    • A dot matrix line printer/plotter apparatus for producing hard copy printout of digitally represented data. The apparatus utilizes one or more hammer banks, each mounted so as to shuttle across a paper web fed therepast. Each hammer bank carries a plurality of hammer assemblies, each of which can be individually actuated to print a dot as it sweeps across the paper. Each hammer bank is mounted on a circuit board which carries electronic circuitry to actuate the hammer assemblies thereon. The circuit boards are supported by leaf springs and driven by a stepper motor which shuttles the boards along linear paths to sweep each hammer assembly across a certain portion of the paper width. Each hammer assembly includes a hammer supported in a guide tube for linear movement between a retracted position and an extended position engaging the paper. A permanent magnet is provided to normally latch the hammer in its retracted position. Each hammer assembly further includes a coil energizable to null the action of the permanent magnet as to that hammer assembly and to thus permit a spring to propel the hammer to said extended position.

    • A coaxial drop cable safety device is used for cable television, data and telephony applications. The device is used on buried drop cable where 60 Hz powering voltages applied to the drop cable exceed low voltage safety limits and where the drop cable is buried at depths which is less than the minimum required to meet electrical safety codes. Tap end and premise end units are connected to the drop cable. The tap end unit applies a DC voltage to the center conductor of the drop cable. A monitoring circuit in the tap end unit monitors the center conductor DC voltage to a fault from the center conductor to ground along the drop cable. The tap unit will immediately remove the powering voltage In the event of either an open or faulted condition on the center conductor along the entire length of the drop cable. Additionally, while providing fault protection for the low frequency powering circuit due to tampering or damage to the cable, the fault monitoring circuit allows the high frequency television, data and telephony signals to pass with little or no impediment.

    • An aerial self-supporting fiber optic cable includes a pair of longitudinal strength members extending along respective opposite sides of a core, and a jacket surrounding the core and strength members, wherein the jacket has a generally elliptical outer cross-sectional shape. A major transverse axis of the generally elliptical jacket is generally aligned with an imaginary line defined between the pair of longitudinal strength members. The cable core includes at least one elongate buffer tube and at least one optical fiber disposed within the buffer tube. The strength members has a predetermined tensile strength to support the fiber optic cable between adjacent vertical supports. The jacket may have a generally elliptical shape with an enlarged central lobe surrounding the core, and a pair of relatively smaller lobes on opposite sides of the central lobe and surrounding respective longitudinal strength members. An armor layer surrounds the core and provides protection for below ground installation of the cable as well. The fiber optic cable is also preferably flexible to facilitate twisting thereof between adjacent vertical supports to define a more irregular shape for wind passing over the fiber optic cable to thereby reduce wind-induced motion of the cable. An apparatus and method for making the cable are also disclosed.
