Finally, a post is moveably secured to the base. The post engages a switch of a device (e.g., firearm, tool or like device) to prevent activation of the device.

    • A harmonic blocking converter system for converting power between an AC source and a DC source includes a harmonic blocking transformer and a converter which generates undesirable harmonic currents including fifth and seventh harmonic components. The harmonic blocking transformer includes a polyphase main transformer and a harmonic blocker coupled with wye and delta secondary windings of the main transformer, so as to substantially block passage of the fifth and seventh harmonic currents to the AC source. A waveform enhancer may couple the harmonic blocking transformer with the converter. The converter may be constructed for 2-level operation, or, with the addition of auxiliary diodes, for 3-level operation. Such a harmonic blocking transformer and a method of blocking undesirable harmonic currents are also provided.

    • An improved surge current limiting method and apparatus is provided for an inverter circuit. The inverter includes electronic switching devices serially connected between relatively positive and negative voltage buses and alternately conductive for providing alternating current paths through a load connected to a terminal intermediate the two switching devices. An inductor connected in series with the switching devices is provided with a permanent magnet core which is magnetically polarized in a direction such that current through the inductor attempts to reverse the magnetic polarity of the permanent magnet. The inductor is sized such that normal current through the inductor is not appreciably attenuated by the inductance. Under fault current conditions, the magnetic field generated by the higher currents through the inductor is opposed by the magnetic field of the permanent magnet so as to provide a substantial current limiting effect. The permanent magnet current limiting inductor may be used in various locations in an inverter circuit and may be applied to either single phase or multi-phase inverters.

    • A fault current protection arrangement for a power converter circuit utilizes gate turn-off thyristors as electronic switching devices. A gate turn-off thyristor is connected between relatively positive and negative voltage buses with a circuit interruption device connected in electrical series arrangement with a cathode terminal of the thyristor. A gate driver circuit is connected for providing control signals to the gate terminal of the thyristor for controlling its on and off states during normal operation. Upon detection of the fault current condition, the gate driver circuit is inhibited and the interruption device open-circuits the cathode terminal of the thyristor to divert current in the thyristor into the gate terminal. The resulting anode-to-gate current results in rapid turn-off of the thyristor.

    • In force-commutated single phase and polyphase thyristor inverters, a single commutating pulse generator produces commutating impulses for all the commutating thyristors which are individually transformer-coupled to the power circuit to turn off a selected load thyristor. Coasting thyristors to provide zero output voltage levels are also commutated without additional components. The basic commutating pulse generator has one capacitor with provision for recovering trapped energy, and pulse waveshaping and two-level overcurrent capability can be added economically.
